I'm seperating what the state of NJ does to him from what Temple will do to him....I don't expect he'll go to prison. Despite how serious the legal system may take this offense, I expect he'll be available for practice and games if the University allows him. I'm simply commenting on how severe some expect Temple's reaction will be.

I did find your sediment interesting, though.
As mentioned before the news article states that he is charged with resisting arrest and engaging in prostitution.
I disagree with the engaging part (probably an article writers error). He should be charged in soliciting in prostitution.

Max up to 6 months in county and $1000 fine.

There will not be special treatment for one person (Wyatt) when 27 cases have to be tried. Most of these people are probably first time offenders so they will be in the same boat. If you are going to give Wyatt a break then you will have to give the other offenders a break. DAs are not going to that on behalf of Wyatt and Temple (law for the most part does not work like that).

If the DA and county/state are setting up vice squads that means they are trying to crack down on offenses in this crime characteristic. Why would go through all that effort just to let people go and not charge them even half to extent laws can? Sorry that is a failure in basic logic.

Someone on A10talk.com is stating that Wyatt will not be playing at Temple this coming season.

Not surprizing, if it's true. The national publicity about this incident has been quite extensive.

Besides, who could expect Khalif Wyatt to walk past one of these beauties without giving it a try ?

Each case will be adjudicated on its own merits. I would be surprised if even one first timer went to court unless the intent was to plead innocent. Courts are packed already with cases .Wyatt will be no different and if he has a capable attorney it will be plead out.

Re: Wyatt arrested

Exactly. So he pays a fine, maybe gets some community service and promises he won't do it again.

And losing his entire senior season for this would be a gross overreaction. The only reason I can see that a dismissal should be a possibility is the fact that Wyatt has some bad behavior in his past, or if the University has some very clear guidelines on whoring.

Re: Wyatt arrested

This is a complete non-story. If anything, shame on the AP for reporting it and acting like this is a serious offense. If it turns out Wyatt is kicked off the team for this, I'd be very disappointed in Dunphy. The fact of the matter is, if this was a coach caught with a prostitute rather than a player, it's doubtful at best they'd get fired. Just another example of the bs double standard in college sports today because of "discipline."

Re: Wyatt arrested

Prostitution isn't really a victimless crime, but that's hardly the issue.
This kid obviously doesn't appreciate his team or his school, if he did, he would have behaved like an adult.
If he doesn't care for the oppurtunity he's been given, I guess he'll just have to grow up.
A little tough love might be good for him.

Since he got arrested in Atlantic City, was he allowed to use a "Get Out of Jail Free" card?

Why is Prostitution illegal

Had it explained to me this way:

Case 1. A John seeks what the Pro has and the Pro seeks what the John has, an amount is agreed on and the event commences. Two consenting adults.

Case 2. Boy asks girl out for a date. Go to dinner, (maybe he presents flowers) and then take in a movie. After movie stop by a pub for a drink before taking her home. She invites him in as they both are after the same thing, so the event commences. Two consenting adults.

The reason it is illegal isn't because of any morality, otherwise abortion would be illegal. It has to do with how the money is distributed. In the fist case there is no middle man/woman. Straight from the John to the Pro. In the second case he is spending $$ for dinner, flowers, movie and drinks at a bar. Hence its illegal for economic reasons.

After thinking about it, made sense. The object in both cases is the same. The result in both cases is the same, only the way the money is distributed is different. Two consenting adults.

A pragmatic view

Denmark is a pragmatic country and views prostitution and other similar activities in a more pragmatic way.

They realize prostitution is one of the oldest professions and is not going to go away no matter how hard they try. Therefore they legalize it and require the pros to get and pay for a license, have a 3 month checkup by a medical staff to keep their license current and report their income and pay taxes. Law enforcement can therefore concentrate on more serious victim crimes. End result, there is no cost to taxpayers, law enforcement is concentrated on victim crimes, the Johns are assured their pro is disease free, and they pay taxes contributing to the state instead of having the state pay for enforcement for a victimless crime.

While reporting income is not a science as is with waiters/waitresses, the state knows how much a good pro should be making.

Another important result is these pros do not stand on corners dressed like, well hookers. They are off the streets and are more akin to escorts, properly attired.
