I doubt it. Xavier keeps moving it on him. It's quite a folly to watch.

The "leftovers" are quite likely to have a losing season in 2012-13.
I think that X can still have a good team if their newbies pan out. There is a lot of suck on the returning team, but talented new players can more than make up for it.

Jeff Robinson - blows.

James Farr - I have no idea who he is. Maybe he is good. I have no idea. The possibility exists that he blows on a Jeff Robinson level too.

Jalen Reynolds - I think he is impressive. Players with his kind of length (arms) normally do better than anticipated. He can shoot the jumper. He will cause problems with his defensive wingspan coverage. It's possible that he could be ineligible for this season though, and that would be a tough blow for the gangstas. I feel he has some gangsta in him. This should be fun. Hopefully, Mack developes that self-destructive and embarrassing gangsta side. Muskeagle will feel better about him if he carries some Skittles for the kids.

Isaiah Philmore - I think he is X's best bet for an offensive presence inside. I expect him to be a good player.

Travis Taylor - blows.

Justin Martin - his freshman year was too strange. He was a pre-season All-A10 frosh team pick and seemed to have some type of total breakdown. He seems kind of slow for his size, so he better start shooting the ball well.

Brad Redford - He can be effective if another team doesn't have a player who absolutely blankets him outside the 3pt line. Teams that don't do that should have their coaches slapped. I think he is a total defensive liability despite the objections of those who refuse to be objective about it.

Myles Davis - I've heard he isn't very athletic but can really shoot the 3. I think that's OK, because X will need that kind of spot-up shooter. Actually, I think they very much need him this year for the offense. If he is ineligible, Redford and Davis are going to have to play crazy minutes, and that will really kill X. He has to be eligible.

Dee Davis - I like his defense. I think he has a lot of defensive potential. He's ok with everything else. He seems like a high quality back-up so far to me.

Semaj Christon - I'm not sure what to think yet. X fans swear up and down that he is the next coming. He has complimentary reviews from some UC fans. He must be pretty good. Hopefully for X fans he has more dimensions to his game than just dribble penetration. X desperately needs a star player.

Another junior college transfer - X picked up some kind of junior college transfer as soon as Dez went all hoodlum on campus. I don't think anyone knows what to expect from him at this point.

To use a Muddy stat here - Myles Davis averaged 23 ppg in hs - lots of downtown 3's - should be fun to watch. He will come in and shoot.

Maybe Muddy can get his booted flyer team going with Staten, Henton, Spearman, Hill and Jesse Berry. They'd be much better than the current team.

shhh....didn't you know, UD doesn't lose players or ask them to leave because they didn't pan out. Only schools that ONLY care about on the court success have that kind of thing happen. UD would NEVER be in that kind of business.

LaDontae Henton and Jesse Berry never enrolled at UD.

These guys all played at least one season for Xavier:

Xavier Basketball To Host Season Ticket Holder Open House (Xavier University - September 5, 2012)
Event Scheduled for October 1 at 5:30 p.m.

Attendees can participate in a Q & A session with Athletic Director Mike Bobinski and men's basketball Head Coach Chris Mack.

That should be fun.

Jury Doesn't Charge Dezmine Wells (Dana O'Neil, ESPN - August 28, 2012)

The decision went against the hopes of Deters, who in his statement said: "I would sincerely hope the institution would revisit this situation," and left Wells' attorney, Merlyn Shiverdecker furious.

"That is self-serving gobbledygook," Shiverdecker told ESPN.com after being read Xavier's statement. "I think they were committed to the process and not the fairness of the outcome."

"Dez Wells got thrown under a bus because of their commitment to the process."

"Within two hours of being exonerated, they say this? Why in the hell would he want to go back there?" Shiverdecker said.

"My goal was not to lambast Xavier University. My goal was to exonerate Dez, to clear his name. We have done all we can to do that. I'm tickled we were able to do that today, that prosecutor made his statements public. But if Xavier wants to keep their blinders on, there's nothing nobody can do to stop them."

Shiverdecker took issue with the university's stipulation that its standards differ from that of the criminal justice system, explaining that preponderance of evidence is merely the civil equivalent of probable cause.

The lawyer also said he was angry that the university tried to imply that it had information that the prosecutor's office or grand jury did not.

"I personally gave the prosecutor's office every piece of paper, every exhibit, every report, every statement, every hospital report plus a complete transcript of the hearing," he said. "For them to sit there and suggest that the prosecutor was looking at something else is disingenuous at best."

Shiverdecker said the university had rushed to judgment but said Wells appreciated the prosecutor's office gave him "the only forum where he could get his good name back .... The actions of the grand jury have vindicated him of wrongdoing."

Yes.

If you honestly believe that the extensive national media coverage of Xavier's brawl with the Bearcats, the disastrous post-brawl press conference, the expulsion of Dez Wells under very questionable circumstances, and the loss of the Musketeers' best returning player "is good press", then you are certainly entitled to that belief.

Indeed.

xavierhoops - I can’t help but notice that you have recently developed an unhealthy obsession about me and my posts.

You no longer post about Xavier basketball, but instead, you have turned into a stalker and harasser, whether you have realized it or not.

Post something positive about Xavier basketball (if you can find anything) and stop stalking me or you’ll join MudFlap, A10fan2, Knobby, and others on Muddy’s Ignore List.

BTW, you would be doing yourself (and everyone else) a big favor by putting me on your Ignore List.

Xavier Announces Hoops Schedule (Cincinnati Enquirer Blog - September 6, 2012)

Muddy’s Observations:

(1) That is an absolutely brutal schedule for a team that has no returning starters and the weakest bench in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

(2) Five of the 10 active scholarshipped players on Xavier’s Roster have never played a game for the Musketeers.

(3) Xavier will begin the 2012-13 season under a cloud of bad national publicity and great uncertainty concerning the effects of that bad national publicity on the Musketeers players, who are all quite aware that Dez Wells got thrown under a bus.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gameday at Xavier (Banners on the Parkway - August 30, 2012)
A game at the Cintas Center used to be one of the highlights of the year

This originally started as an article about our favorite parts of the gameday experience. Unfortunately, the debacle of the last week has drained a bit of the impetus from that idea. Seeing this draft sitting here got me to thinking though. What will a game at Xavier be like now? Dez Wells is gone, The Fight is still fresh in the minds of everyone making decisions, and there is an unease surrounding the program right now.

Why am I having such a hard time getting excited right now?

Maybe I'm afraid that Dec 10 did change something. That the fans will be just that little bit more on edge, not wanting to be the people hammered for sparking off another incident.

Maybe I'm just bummed that I won't get to see Dezmine Wells develop in person. I've not been that excited for a Xavier sophomore in a very long time. More than his talent, maybe I'm just going to miss the spirit with which he played the game, my game.

Maybe I'm afraid that Xavier just won't be that good this year. Maybe I'm worried that some tiny part of me isn't excited because I know there isn't anything to be excited about.

Sad, sad state of affairs in Flyer land ?

Re: 2012-2013 Xavier Musketeers

Nobody outside of a few posters cares that Xavier and Cincinnati got in a fight last year... I can't tell you how little impact that has on Xavier's national reputation. Most casual fans and recruits probably don't even remember or know that it happened. Mostly, there is no need for a Dayton fan to constantly bring it up other than to bait Xavier fans. Muddy, knock it off. Everyone else, stop taking the bait. Same thing goes for the Dez Wells thing... we get it. Infractions will follow if needed.

Good pub for the Muskies and the A10.

All of the 30 regular season games will have national or regional television coverage with information on the final 10 broadcasts to be announced at a later date.

Xavier has 22 teams on its 2012-13 schedule that participated in 2012 postseason action, including 10 in the NCAA Tournament. “This is a great schedule for our fans and for our team,” said Xavier Athletic Director Mike Bobinski.

The television schedule announced today includes eight games on the ESPN family of networks, seven games on the CBS Sports Network and seven games that will be CBS Sports Network Regional broadcasts. The remaining 10 games of the 30-game regular season package will be covered by national and regional television, including the package on FOX Sports Ohio, the Television Home of Xavier Basketball.
