You know X suffered a horrible loss when even Muddy failed to predict the defeat. It will be interesting to see how a stingy defense deals with an anemic offense.

In any event, it appears that the Musketeers have already played themselves out of consideration for an NCAA Tournament 'at large' invitation, and Xavier presently looks doubtful for the NIT as well.

You didn't miss much, xudash. More of the same from the likes of Squiddy, Muddy and crew.

I'm waiting for the posts to come back out from the likes of Adam and Flyer predicting multi-year rough patches for Xavier coming up for the forseeable future; or how recruiting is just going to take a massive hit and it will be a few years before Xavier can get out of the bad cycle; or posts how Chris Mack just isn't easy to work for or liked among NCAA coaches concluded from observations of him at an AAU game or stories about when he coached high school girls basketball 15-20 years ago. Those were some real gems.

Don't look now, but Xavier might actually be having a real-life down season. It feels weird to write that, because the Musketeers don't do down seasons. For nearly a decade, they've turned over coaches and players and still been among the best teams in the A-10 and a constant threat to make a deep run in the NCAA tournament.

Last Wednesday's Crosstown loss to Cincinnati was entirely forgivable (the Musketeers cramped up late and stopped scoring entirely), but following it up with 55 points in a home loss to Wofford? Yikes.

Chris Mack's team has a long way to go.

I'll happily take 11 NCAA appearances and 1 CBI appearance along with 3 Sweet 16's, 2 Elite 8's and 3 Second Round (3rd now) and 9 A-10 Championships in 13 years as opposed to... what... exactly? 1 NCAA win in 40 years? Middle-of-the-pack A-10 finishes? Annual NIT participant. Irrelevant nationally?

But hey, at least UD gets to host the First 4, right? And that palpable pressure in UD Arean with their 12,000+ fans. Those 2 things HAVE to get them invited to the new Big East 7+Xavier, right???

I wish I could blame it on the palpable pressure coming from the crowd, but wow, our fans have been horrible this year. Our attendance has been wayyy down (haven't sold out a single game) and Cintas is dead all game except for a few times during the games. I thought Xavier fans weren't like the rest of Cincinnati sports fans (shitty) but I guess they are when the going gets tough.

KNOXVILLE – Another major collapse. Another close loss.

Xavier’s men’s basketball team led Tennessee by 10 points with about 18 minutes left in Saturday’s game at Thompson-Boling Arena before falling on the wrong side of a 17-3 tear that led to the Volunteers’ 51-47 victory before an ESNPU audience and a UT season-high 18,504 fans.

Xavier’s season-high 19 turnovers and inability to make a field goal for 10:14 gave the Volunteers room to command the lead for good.

Freshman Derek Reese, playing his first game of the season after shoulder surgery, buried a 3-pointer with 8:14 to play. Xavier never recovered.

The Musketeers dropped a third straight game for only the third time in nine seasons and suffered a fourth loss in their last five outings.

The last time Xavier started 7-5 was Sean Miller’s first season as head coach in 2004-05.

I promise this is the last time I am going to say this to you. I know you don't understand it. But hopefully the rest of you X fans can learn from this.

You, Xavierhoops, are perpetuating those stories. Those posters said 1 time (probably) that X was going to go through a "multiyear rough patch," but I have seen you write it over 10 times this season. Just get over it, man. We see now that they might have been wrong when they said that. We don't need to re-live it for the next 5 years.

If you ever posted any original thoughts, I suppose we could ridicule you for it after you are wrong. But all you ever say is, in essence, "UD fans are obsessed with Xavier," "UD fans predicted we will go into a multi-year rough patch," "UD fans make excuses," and "UD has not had as much success as Xavier in recent history."

I haven't yet seen you say, for instance, that UD will be in the bottom half of the league THIS year. Or anything really about this year's team. I assume your logic is that those comments would make you vulnerable to relentless ridicule, much like the way you treat UD posters who voice opinions about things that haven't happened yet. But ,don't worry man. It won't happen. You are the only one who gets your kicks out of doing that.

We know Xavier has been better than UD lately. There isn't an argument that says otherwise. How long did Christopher Columbus walk around and say "the world is flat" after it was proven? Is Obama still walking around chiding Mitt Romney that he won the election? Is the US still telling Russia we landed on the moon first? You contribute zero to a conversation by saying "we have more NCAA tournament wins in the last 40 years, now what?" We all know that.
