You walked right into that one, xavierhoops

paulxu - a bit of an 'own goal' there ?

You do not appear to appreciate the difference between a top college freshman bolting to make $ Millions in the NBA and a not-so-top college freshman leaving Xavier to continue his college basketball career at Appalachian State.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Speaking of 'own goals':

3-Star SF # 21 Jay Canty (Rivals.com Profile)

Freshmen Jordan Latham And Jay Canty Decide To Transfer (Xavier University - April 8, 2011)

No one transfers from Xavier to Appalachian State because they want to.

Jay Canty transferred to Appalachian State after the 2010-11 season ended because Chris Mack told Jay Canty that he would not be getting any meaningful playing time at Xavier behind 4-Star SF # 17 Justin Martin (who had not yet played a game for Xavier) and 4-Star SF # 22 Dezmine Wells (who also had not yet played a game for Xavier).

Justin Martin's 2011-12 Stats (Yahoo!)

Code:
MPG FG % 3-PT % FT % REB AST TO PPG

11.8 42.0 % 31.7 % 35.7 % 2.5 0.5 0.6 2.9

If Chris Mack had not shown SF Jay Canty the door, he would be a junior at Xavier in 2012-13.

Possible Depth Chart (Position: starter, first off the bench at each position.)
C: Jeff Robinson, Jalen Reynolds, and James Farr.

PF: Isaiah Philmore, Travis Taylor, and James Farr.

SF: Justin Martin.

SG: Brad Redford, Myles Davis.

PG: Semaj Chrison, Dee Davis.

Having another SF on the Roster might come in handy before the 2012-13 season is over.

Which UD posters are cheering him on? I only see the so-called Triumvirate cheering him on. I surely haven't cheered him on. Nor have I seen Adam, Flyer75, or bpritchard cheering him on. And most people know the so-called Triumvirate are just trolls and shouldn't be taken seriously. Now, I agree there needs to be some sort of refuting process so that people don't blindly believe what Muddy is trolling, but you over do it on purpose. Yes, Muddy instigates and you fall for it. Muddy puts a small twig in the fire, you drop 4 tons of wood onto the fire, trying to catch Muddy before he runs away. (During a losing streak, usually...)

As for being on-topic, I'm curious to see how X goes this year. I'm sad to see Lyons and Wells both gone, as I wanted to see them take the team on their backs, like Xavier leaders before them have. But, the other players can now step up, get playing time, and win one for the Muskie.

I disagree that there needs to be a refuting process. Why bother? I agree that they over do it.

Exactly. If you see a crazy person on the street going off about how the federal government is run by aliens in human form, you don't stop and argue. You chuckle and go about your day. I don't understand what it is about a message board that makes people argue with foil hat wearers. If someone says something ridiculous, move on to less ridiculous posts.

Muddy will do what he does, lengthy posts with several links and observations. Most will heavily favor UD and make Xavier look less than stellar. It's his shtick. Get over it like most of us have, because we're adults. The guy can post what he wants. The mods will handle him. It is what it is. Letting it get under your skin only makes you look silly.

Damn Adam, don't take away all my fun. Every now and then it's fun to point at the foil hat.

Back to topic ==> Re: 2012-2013 Xavier Musketeers

Justin Martin's 2011-12 Stats & Game Log (Yahoo!)

Code:
MPG FG % 3-PT % FT % REB AST TO PPG

11.8 42.0 % 31.7 % 35.7 % 2.5 0.5 0.6 2.9
Last season, Justin Martin did most of his statistical 'damage' against Xavier's non-conference opponents.

Here's how Justin Martin fared against Xavier's Atlantic 10 opponents:

Code:
                                     3-Pt.
 Date Atlantic 10 Shots
2012 Opponent Result Made Reb. Pts.

Jan 7	@ Fordham W 67-59 0 1 2
Jan 11	Duquesne W 78-50 0 3 7
Jan 14	St. Bonaventure W 77-64 0 0 0
Jan 18	Saint Joseph's W 68-55 0 1 0
Jan 21	@ Dayton L 72-87 0 0 0
Jan 25	Saint Louis L 68-73 0 5 2
Jan 28	@ Charlotte W 74-70 0 0 0
Feb 1	@ Geo. Washington W 59-58 Did Not Play
Feb 8	Rhode Island W 84-66 0 0 0
Feb 11	@ Temple L 72-85 0 2 4
Feb 18	Dayton W 86-83 0 0 1
Feb 21	@ Massachusetts L 73-80 0 3 2
Feb 25	Richmond W 65-57 Did Not Play
Feb 28	@ Saint Louis L 59-70 0 2 3
Mar 3	Charlotte W 72-63 0 2 0
Mar 9	Dayton W 70-69 0 2 3
Mar 10	@ Saint Louis W 71-64 0 0 0
Mar 11	St. Bonaventure L 56-67 0 1 0
As SF Justin Martin begins his third year at Xavier University, he is still looking to make his first 3-point attempt against an Atlantic 10 team, having sat out his freshman year and going 0-10 from beyond the 3-point arc against Atlantic 10 opponents last season.

Xavier Musketeers 2011-12 Stats - Sorted by Scoring Average (Yahoo!)

Xavier Musketeers 2011-12 Stats - Sorted by 3-Point Shooting Percentage (Yahoo!)

Xavier Musketeers 2011-12 Stats - Sorted by Free Throw Shooting Percentage (Yahoo!)
Senior Jeff Robinson is the leading returning free-thow shooter, having made 57.6 % of his FT attempts.

In short, Justin Martin was essentially useless against Atlantic 10 competition, which exacerbates this obvious problem:

Possible Depth Chart (Position: starter, first off the bench at each position.)
C: Jeff Robinson, Jalen Reynolds, and James Farr.

PF: Isaiah Philmore, Travis Taylor, and James Farr.

SF: Justin Martin.

SG: Brad Redford, Myles Davis.

PG: Semaj Chrison, Dee Davis.

I think Muddy is making a good, well-thought out point. Martin blows. Are there any objections?

I have no objections. It's actually a very good sign looking at past performance.
For example, there was this prediction:

Quote:
However, I do see Xavier finishing the season behind Temple, Dayton, and Richmond because of their serious lack of depth.

It is my opinion that that this lack of depth will be the reason that Xavier loses some games that they would not lose if Brad Redford and Justin Martin were available to play this season.

But I think that Xavier will end up on the wrong side of the NCAA bubble on Selection Sunday 2011 and be one of the top teams in the 2011 NIT.

If that is "predicting doom and gloom for Xavier", so be it.
Result = XU NCAA, Dayton NIT

Looking at prior prediction performance, and having Martin and Redford, we should be in good shape.

(Adam, think of a lot of guys in tin foil)

Re: 2012-2013 Xavier Musketeers

Muddy makes some really good points about how sucky Xavier is and has been the last number of years. Mack stinks, too...I read it right here. Now why in f#@k's sake hasn't UD been able to beat this disaster of a team?

Also, reading Muddy posts is like listening to the guy telling you that his c$%k is bigger than yours...but then refusing to whip it out and measure it to just answer the damn question. All the posts "proving" UD is better, but no look at reality and records. Whip it out and measure, Muddy. We'll see in March whose is bigger. Until then, just shut up, Muddy.

I agree. I wasn't trying to say X is gong to be better this year. X might really suck. NOBODY knows. It just gets laborious to deal with article after article of how great a UD recruit is and article after article showing how bad X's 3pt shooting percentage is and how that is going to keep them from winning more than 12 games...blah, blah, blah. I know I wasn't really saying anything new. I come to this board because I like to get info I might not see and to get perspective from other schools. But certain posters' tireless barrage of hate, just takes a lot of the fun out of it.
