Rumors out there that Bryant Dunston has signed a 1-year guaranteed contract with the Nets. One publication reported it and in the same article said that some are saying it is not true.

Re: Summer league thread

I don't watch a lot of NBA, been watching more the past 2-3 seasons but my eyes tell me that without a doubt, Roberts is the best player on that Hornets summer league team. I have no idea what the rest of their team looks like but he's out playing everyone, and playing much better then Austin Rivers. You can tell Roberts is the "veteran" out there on that team at age 26.

2 Games, 12 ppg (leads team), 20.5 mpg (not leading team), 53% from field, 100% from FT.

If he sticks with the Hornets it's because they see the need for a veteran type guard to mentor Rivers along with Gordon. Roberts is perfect for the NBA high pick and roll.

Makes a lot of sense, which means they probably won't give him a shot. Makes more sense to them to give 25 mill to a guy who played good for a month in the Big Apple.

Re: Summer league thread

I doubt they'd bring on a guy with no NBA experience to mentor their number one pick. I could see them bringing him in to eat minutes as Rivers gets acclimated, but saying he'd mentor Rivers seems a bit of a stretch to me. Either way, I hope he makes the team.

Re: Summer league thread

Size hurt Roberts. He's probably 6'2" in shoes, if he's on his tippy toes. He certainly has a high skill level, but it will be tough. The Hornets will probably start Jarrett Jack and Eric Gordon, with Rivers getting lots of time. They also have Greivis Vasquez, Xavier Henry, Jerome Dyson, and Darius Miller, who will be a tall 2/3 swing. There are only so many spots.

Strangely enough, I think the best chance for a UD grad to make his way into the NBA (outside of Wright, who will get a shot with someone) this year is Devin Searcy. His odds are also very slim, but he's 6'9" and already hooked up with the Sixers, a team kind of in transition. It would not surprise me if Searcy ends up being a 13th-15th man, going back and forth between the Sixers (or someone else) and the DLeague. If not, I think his solid summer league run could get him some decent money overseas.

I didn't necessarily mean mentor in a basketball sense...ceiling is much higher for Rivers. I'm saying, mentor as a person/basketball player. Roberts is a very calm person and leads by example so that's kind of what I meant by that. You can even see it just in the summer league game (I know it's only a summer league game) but Roberts has much more command of the offense and leadership right now then Rivers does. In no way am I saying that Roberts is ultimately a better player but right now, as of today, he probably is.

Now, I'm not feeling sorry for Roberts if he doesn't make it. He'll continue to make his 6 figure salary over seas and play for another 8-10 years there.

True and it's been that way. Again, at age 26 and playing overseas, Roberts is a better player right now then Rivers, age 19, one year of college ball. But the Hornets are willing to pay the guy whatever in hopes that 3-4 years from now, he's a league All-Star.

All anyone had to do was watch the last two games and see that Roberts can hit shots from 18-21 feet right now that Rivers can't...and he runs the pick and roll better too.

I've posted Roberts numbers already in two games....Rivers in 2 games has played over 10 more min per game and is shooting 21% from the field and 13% from 3.

Re: Summer league thread

I'm noticing all these guys playing in the summer league, a lot of them with pretty decent stats, but how many are realistically going to make it to the NBA? One? Two? I mean, sure, 10 points a game is nice but it's over a four game stretch against 75% other guys who probably aren't going to make a roster. Former Bonnie Michael Lee is playing for the Kings and as much as I would like to see him make the team, I doubt it's going to come to fruition.
