Re: Summer league thread
Good points Bona, rarely does an undrafted player make it off a summer league team. Wright was one of only a handful that did last year and he still bounced back and forth from the League and the D League. I have no expectations that any UD grad is going to make it....possibly Wright.

Re: Summer league thread
If you impress and there's an open spot on your teams roster, you'll make it. Alternatively, if you light up the right squad that has an open spot, they might bring you to camp. I think the odds are better for guys like Dionte Christmas or Michael Lee who have established track records of play in Europe before joining a summer league roster than someone who was completely undrafted.

Rumors going around that Bryant Dunston got a deal from the Nets after his play in the Orlando Summer League that just finished, but if true I would think his fate will be very similar to the one Flyer75 mentioned Wright had last season. It's real uphill battle for these guys. |

Re: Summer league thread
Looks like from this article the Celtics are trying to find a spot for Christmas.

Re: Summer league thread
I like Christmas' chances in the NBA. I think he has the scoring mentality, shooting skills and athleticism to do it.

Re: Summer league thread
Watched Brian Roberts play for New Orleans tonight. Looks good. Pretty much the same type of player he was at UD, but with 4 seasons of pro ball under his belt. He's clearly the best guard on their summer team, whatever that means. Had 11 points, and had a +- of -2 in 33 minutes (of 40), which is kind of impressive considering they lost by 13. Best +/- on the team of the guys who played more than 5 minutes. They got drilled when he was on the bench.
I'd have to think he has a decent chance of sticking around for training camp. Very slim odds to make the roster, but hey, if a slim chance is good enough for Lloyd Christmas... Very cool to see him succeed, regardless. Even if his NBA dream never comes to fruition, he will do very well overseas for several more years, I'd imagine. As a fan it was really cool to see him play basketball again.

Re: Summer league thread
Agree Adam...he's the best guard on that summer league team, over Rivers and Dyson as it stands right now. He's second leading player in scoring on that team behind only a big, Thomas. He's shooting almost 50% from 3 and 50% from the field and 13-13 from the FT line.
I think he gets a shot with the team but not sure if he'll make it. But the ball is in his court. If he doesn't get signed by the team to a contract he won't mess around with the D league thing. That would be a serious pay cut for him. |

Re: Summer league thread
Roberts might have just landed a spot on the team. Finishes tonight with 18 points and 5 assists. Hits 2-3 from deep.
Final SL stats: 5 GM, 13.8 ppg, 2.2 apg, 24-28 from the field (50%), 6-11 from 3 (55%), 15-16 FT (94%). Last edited by Flyer75; 07-21-2012 at 05:34 PM. |

Re: Summer league thread
Ya, I don't think he's ever going to be a big time minute guy in the NBA (let's face it, he's playing for the 12th or 13th spot on the bench) but would be nice to see him land a few years in the league. That would allow him to make the kind of money he's making overseas and of course move back to the States. Great character guy too.
