OT: Moving to Philadelphia
Alright everyone I am moving to the Philadelphia area for the fall semester to work as an intern with the Philadelphia Union (which is actually located in Chester, PA).
I was wondering if any had any recommendation on where to live. Note that I am graduate school student and this in an unpaid internship so I will be living on a budget (trying to stay under $1,000 per month for a 6 month lease). I had been looking at a studio apartment in Wilmington, DE but unfortunately someone else go it before I could. ![]() If anyone has recommendations (where to stay and where to stay away from) or knows of places I would greatly appreciate it. Re: OT: Moving to Philadelphia
Stay out of Chester, Marcus Hook & Trainer.
For a youngster Media would be an excellent location, ensure you are near State Street. State Street has a ton of bars and restaurants and a 15/20 minute commute to PPL. Wilmington is not a bad choice either. Cant go wrong with either. Viva le Frogs Guster |

Start gambling a ton at Harrah's in Chester, PA and then ask for comped rooms at the casino. It's right next to the penitentiary.

Re: OT: Moving to Philadelphia
A lot of St. Joes students & recent grads live in Manayunk. Its a section of Phila. 15 minute train ride to Center City. Also has its own Bar/Resturant Area.

Re: OT: Moving to Philadelphia
Thanks everyone for the advice so far (and keep it coming please). I will have to check those areas out. It would be a lot easier to do if I wasn't all the way down here in North Carolina.

Re: OT: Moving to Philadelphia
Stay out of Wilmington and Chester. Wilmington has a very nice business district but after hours and on the weekends the place is deserted.
Downtown West Chester has come a long way. I would recommend living there because of the many bars, shops, restaurants and students your age from West Chester University. It's about a 30 min commute to the Union stadium. |

Re: OT: Moving to Philadelphia
Ridley park is a nice little area for a 6 month stay , easy commute to chester and a train stop in town to get into center city.
media is also a decent location. maybe swarthmore might help you find a 6 month deal as they are used to dealing with students |
