Re: College Madness Top 144 preview
Joel Welser didn't do his homework on this preview: # 92 Dayton Flyers (Joel Welser, College Sports Madness - August 8, 2012) Quote:
UD Transfer Players Ready to Make an Impact (Doug Harris, DDN - June 25, 2012) Sanford, Derenbecker hungry for chance to prove themselves. UD Dillard’s Play Catches Eye of NBA Scouts (Doug Harris, DDN - July 15, 2012) Length, quickness of UD point guard leads to favorable impression. Dillard Eyes Better Season in 2012-13 (Doug Harris, DDN - July 23, 2012) UD Season Ticket Holders Not Discouraged By Cost (Doug Harris, DDN - August 8, 2012) Looking Good: The UD basketball team has concluded its summer practices, and Miller believes many players took a big jump forward. The NCAA allowed coaches for the first time to work with their teams in the offseason as long as school was in session, giving them two hours per week for eight weeks. "One of the things that was really impressive was the way Kevin Dillard approached his offseason. I don’t think I’ve had a more determined, committed kid who’s a very good player try to become even better like that," Miller said. "I thought Vee Sanford had a tremendous summer — not only in the weight room but also shooting the ball. I really, really am impressed with Matt Kavanaugh and Alex Gavrilovic’s commitment level. Both of those guys are much improved players, much improved physically." Devin Oliver, a reluctant offensive player in the past, earned points with Miller for his improved shooting. The 6-foot-7 junior wing also beefed up about 20 pounds to 228. "I think this year, hopefully, he’s a guy out there who will have a different coverage (from opponents) because you have to guard him a little more,” Miller said. “That will really open up things for our team." Benson Update: Miller said senior forward Josh Benson is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a torn knee ligament, which caused him to miss the second half of last season. He was the Flyers’ most athletic inside player and was sorely missed during the A-10 season. "I worked him out one of the last days he was on campus (for summer school), and I was very, very impressed,” Miller said. “His quickness level, his explosiveness, his size – he put some weight on up top, which is good – gave me a lot of confidence that he’s going to be effective." Archie on Dillard, Oliver, Freshmen (Doug Harris, DDN - August 9, 2012) . . . but at least Welser got this much right: Quote:

So happy the presession polls are just background noise. Football season starts shortly with tail gating, the marching band, talking with friends and watching football.

Re: College Madness Top 144 preview
Steve, I didn't mean all UMass and Dayton fans, just the vocal ones who like to make preseason pronouncements of A-10 dominance.
Sorry to hear about all the injuries and hope you enjoy your football season.

Re: College Madness Top 144 preview
I followed this list last summer to see where SLU would appear, and when he got into the 20s and SLU wasn't there, I emailed him and he said SLU was not in his top 144 for 2011-12. Keep in mind the 144th best team in D-1 college basketball is awful and would finish in the bottom 4 of the A-10 most years. When SLU won only 12 games the previous season, they were still one of the top 144 of all D-1 teams. So take these rankings with a grain of salt.

But on your other point I did take a peek at Pomeroys rankings for that year and man was the A10 crappy. .... Dayton 100, Rhode Island 120, Saint Louis 122, St. Bonaventure 152, George Washington 162, La Salle 172, St. Josephs 183, Massachusetts 195, Charlotte 213, and Fordham 292. The A10 jumped big time last year with only 5 or 6 ranked over 100 versus the 10 the year prior. |

Re: College Madness Top 144 preview
Personally, I think its premature to publish these predictions until practice has started, and you know who is eligible and have an idea as to the recovery of players who were injured. That said, the predictions do lend themselves to message board discussion.
Dayton is listed at 92. |

Re: College Madness Top 144 preview
Please.... Umass should be roughly 5th or 6th (in terms of A-10 teams listed) and Dayton should be 8th or so.
A few delusional Umass and Dayton fans can put them 1 and 1a, but the rest of the world knows differently.

Re: College Madness Top 144 preview
Just out of curiousity could you give the link to your post where you ranked the teams selecting Dayton as coming in 6th?
