I think Jake O'Brien was a good get for Temple, but let's remember he's missed about 1 1/2 years with injury and will be "transferring up" (from the America East conference). It might take him a good bit of time to get back in the flow of things. And I would question whether DeCosey is going to see significant minutes this season as a freshman (who's he going to get minutes from - Wyatt, Pepper, Scootie?). Most freshman (even a lot of the good ones at the A-10 level) have ups and downs - it's a year for learning and growing). So I don't think a ranking of 71 is ridiculous for Temple - you could argue they could maybe be up around 60 or so, but 71 isn't outrageous. They'll be competing with a bunch of teams that are very close to them in the A-10. |

Re: College Madness Top 144 preview
Temple's biggest losses were Ramone Moore and Michael Eric. Cummings will be an upgrade at the 1. He's not going to shoot it as much as Juan did, but he's a much better facilitator, defender and athlete than Fernandez. I expected Temple to be ranked in the high 40s or 50s, bit surprised to see them check in at 71. If Anthony Lee plays as big as he looks now, I think they'll be punching another ticket to the dance.

#71 is about right. You're relying on Khalif Wyatt, a bunch of freshman, and a player that hasn't played basketball in over a year at the D-1 level. The only thing you have going for you is the possibility of Anthony Lee breaking out. In fact, the more I think about it, 71 might be a bit too high. Iowa, UConn, La Salle, Northwestern, and Wichita State are all much, much better than Temple, yet are listed below them. I think we are overrating the A-10 a lot at this point. With Xavier, St Louis, and Temple down in the dumps, if it weren't for Butler and VCU, we very well might be a 2-bid league. You people are all delusional...

But they will most likely probably have the best 18 shooters in the country on their team.

It is quite likely that Welser had already ranked teams # 44 to # 144 before his first preview article was published, and that Welser ranked Xavier as one of the top teams in the Atlantic 10 this season. After the expulsion of Dez Wells, that is unlikely to be the case. In fact, at this point it is very difficult for anyone to make a credible argument that the Musketeers will finish the season as one of the Top 65 teams in the country. As each day passes, Welser's credibility diminishes. Joel Welser's Rankings to Date: Code:
Overall Rank Team Rank in A10 Butler 66 6 Temple 71 7 La Salle 80 8 Dayton 92 9 St. Bonaventure 112 10 George Washington 137 11

Why do you insist on maintaining your status as this board's biggest tool? You state Wesler is losing credibility every day (because of one team's ranking) and in the same paragraph provide an explaination (very accurately) why his X ranking will be incorrect? Because, you know, these rankings are exactly how things will look next March ......

Re: College Madness Top 144 preview
Taking seriously a ranking of the top 144 teams done in the summer is strange. The list is entertaining and spurs some juicy fighting but you'd have to be borderline mentally retarded to try to take anything of substance from it.
