SI.com today, my ranking of the 25 most intriguing "scheduled" nonconf games

Kentucky-L'ville, UNC-UNLV among must-see nonconference face-offs
  • 6. Indiana vs. Butler (Indianapolis, Dec. 15)
  • 13. Gonzaga at Butler (Jan. 19)
  • 14. Cincinnati vs. Xavier (Dec. 19)
  • 22. Saint Joseph's at Drexel (Dec. 31)
  • 23. Alabama at VCU (Dec. 15)
  • 24. Saint Louis at Washington (Nov. 28)

I think Butler at Xavier (non-conference/ESPN's 24 hour marathon) has to be on there for if nothing more that how weird it is...

Completely agree. How often do you have two schools playing twice in the same season, with one game counting as an OOC game and the other counting as a conference game?

Otherwise, #14 doesn't surprise me. That game will make next year's list as well, because it will most likely turn out to be the last game UC and Xavier play for a long, long time. It will be a shame as far as rivalries go if it happens, but we don't need them and they don't need us, so I doubt moving on will be much of a problem for either side.

No argument with any of those, but I would consider adding UMass vs. Harvard to the list. Rising state school program vs. top Ivy that has become really good in basketball.

So a Philly guy has St. Joe's/Drexel and not one Temple game? Temple plays Nova, Kansas, Syracuse, and Duke and not one of those is more exciting than SJSU/New Orleans? Yawn.

Maybe SI forgot that Temple isn't in the Big East this year. Otherwise . . .

It depends on whether the writer thinks Temple is going to be any good this year. As a fan, you probably have more info on some of the new additions and how good they will be, but also some bias towards your team. If they're a top A10 team this year, then I agree, this will be a very interesting game. Not everyone thinks they'll be that good though.

bprichard's comment makes a lot of sense. Is that what you meant? I.e. the list is non-conference games, so maybe the author thought it was a conference game.....

If everything goes right, I only see one loss. Butler vs Indiana.

Butler will be going for a 6th straight at Conseco/Banker's Life since 07...

Notre Dame
Indiana
Purdue
Florida State
Purdue
...Indiana

----------------------

All time, I think they have one loss against probably around a dozen. I actually like that game a whole lot for the potential of win/what that win means to NCAA seeding.

Getting Purdue or Indiana, neutral, in Indianapolis every year is a nice way to get some skins.

I see you haven't been exposed to the theory that you need to schedule easy out of conference games that are guaranteed wins to improve your RPI and dance chances. Just wait a bit.
