Re: Rivals 150 Update

Kyle Davis drops 4 places from # 105 after a break-out summer, but he didn't commit to a BCS-conference school.

At least Kyle keeps his 4-Star ranking (for the time being).

Nolan Berry was Rivals #46 when he committed to Butler 9/22/11. It goes with the territory. It shouldn't effect Dayton as much, with the site on the Rivals network

Re: Rivals 150 Update

Pat Skerry has done a great job of recruiting at Towson since he has taken over. Whether that results in an improvement, who knows, but he's at least bringing in a better caliber of player.

Actually they don't. Frank Mason committed for the 2012 class when it was widely known that he wouldn't qualify and Towson offered anyway on the off-chance that he might sneak in.

He didn't, had to go prep, and since reclassifying has gotten offers from Kansas and Virginia Tech among others.

He's a kid just 45 minutes south of Richmond and our staff wouldn't touch him. He's got all kinds of issues.

floodzone is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: Rivals 150 Update

I assume you mean more than academic issues because VCU will take plenty of academic risk kids.

Re: Rivals 150 Update

Yes, more than academic issues, although Mason wasn't close to qualifying academically. Your pot-shot aside, like the majority of D1 schools out there, we don't have an aversion to taking kids as long as they pass the NCAA clearinghouse. We don't take partial qualifiers like other schools do, but we certainly don't recruit all honor roll kids either, although we have a number of those on our roster as well which we are proud of.

DJ Haley was a 4.0 high school student who is majoring in mechanical engineering at VCU. The 7-foot center also plays the piano and alto saxophone and is as exemplary a student athlete as anyone would want on their squad.

Temple so far with a commit from #127. We're on the final list for #16 (brother of our starting PF), #26, #71, #112, and #144. We're also recruiting #139, and #142.

None of these guys will ever play in the A-10, so nuts to them.

Rysheed, Rondae and Josh would be an incredible haul for 2013. I hope it happens!

Rysheed, Rondae and JB would be a top 10 class. Rysheed, Brandon Austin and JB is probably a top 25 class.

That doesn't appear to make much difference.

Brandon Spearman was ranked # 71 by Rivals, committed to Dayton, led his team Chicago Simeon to the Illinois State Championship, and then Rivals dropped him to # 139 in their final rankings for the HS class of 2010, published a month later.

Brandon Spearman Is Picking Up New Interest (Brian Snow, MusketeerScoop.com - May 9, 2009)

Spearman's stock is on the rise.

Those improvements have led to Rivals.com moving Spearman up to number 71 in the country.

Dayton Flyers Land Another Top 100 Guard (Matt Schwade, FlyerHoops.net - July 17, 2009)
On Thursday night, Spearman called Dayton head coach Brian Gregory and gave a verbal pledge to join the 2010 recruiting class.

PEORIA – Brandon Spearman did it again.

Spearman responded almost immediately, draining three-pointers at the 7:10 and 6:40 marks of the fourth quarter. His dunk with 21 seconds to play sealed the win.

Spearman finished with 19 points. He shot 8-for-11 from the field.

Brandon Spearman of Simeon leaps for a dunk near the end of the game.

Class 4A Championship: Simeon's Simply No. 1 (Chicago Tribune - March 21, 2010)

Simeon celebrates their 51-36 win over Young in the Class 4A Championship game.

Player of the game: Brandon Spearman, 13 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals.

There's No Stopping Simeon, Spearman (Chicago Sun-Times - March 20, 2010)

Spearman, who finished with 13 points and five rebounds, led Simeon in scoring in all seven State Tournament games.

Final Rivals 150 - HS Class of 2010 (Rivals.com - Updated April 29, 2010)
# 139 - Brandon Spearman - G, Chicago Simeon - 3 Stars, 6'-3", 185 lbs. - Dayton
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Muddy's Observations:

(1) I wouldn't be a bit surprized if Kyle Davis averaged 30 PPG his senior year and is dropped to a 3-Star prospect in the Final Rivals 150 - HS Class of 2013.

(2) Brandon Spearman will be a junior at the University of Hawaii this season.

(3) Poison-mouthed Juwan Staten was Brandon Spearman's roomate during the 2010-11 season.

(4) If Devin Oliver had been Brandon Spearman's roomate during the 2010-11 season instead of Juwan Staten, it is quite likely that Spearman would be a junior at UD this season.

(5) Brandon Spearman was a star player at Chicago Simeon High School.

7. Kendall Pollard, 6-5, WF - Chicago Simeon High School

He's now more than just a tough, physical lockdown defender. He's expanded his offensive game and is more athletic. Pollard jumped into the top 10 after a sterling month of June while playing with his high school team, which college coaches didn't get to see. Now he has a surplus of schools courting him.

8. Kyle Davis, 6-0, PG/2G, Chicago Morgan Park High School

The high-scoring guard put up some impressive performances over the course of the summer. With his lightning quickness and explosiveness, he will grab your attention and turn your head in a gym. In the open court and in transition, he's a fabulous get-to-the-rim finisher. The playmaking ability and decision-making is still a work in progress. Davis could excel in the right type of system and style in college. An official visit to Dayton is on tap this weekend.

Miller and the Flyers continue to recruit Chicago extremely hard and may not be done yet when it comes to landing 2013 recruits from the Windy City.

In addition to Davis, Dayton will have 6'-6" wing forward Kendall Pollard on campus for an official visit the weekend of September 14-16.

Brandon Spearman is bad at playing basketball, that contributes to the rankings too.
