Whatever Happened to Khalif Wyatt?

I saw this headline today and was wondering what Temple and Atlantic City's disposition of his charges was?

http://washingtonexaminer.com/report...rticle/2507325

Five DeMatha Catholic High School football players have been removed from the team after prostitutes were hired, The Washington Post reported.

The incident occurred at 5 a.m. Saturday at a hotel, following the team's game in North Carolina. An athlete's parent told the Post that players snuck three prostitutes into the hotel, and some engaged in sexual activities with them.

Two players have withdrawn from the school, two have been recommended for expulsion pending appeal and a fifth faces a disciplinary hearing this morning.

DeMatha, located in Hyattsville, is nationally known for its athletics.

Re: Whatever Happened to Khalif Wyatt?

This will be an interesting topic moving forward. We have XU expelling an All Atlantic Team player for an alleged crime and violations of the code book. Wyatt has been charged with a crime (a misdemeanor) which certainly also has to be a violation of Temple's code book (I would think). This will be interesting.

Trial of Temple's Wyatt Postponed Again (Philly.com - August 8, 2012)

The trial for Temple basketball star Khalif Wyatt was rescheduled for Tuesday, August 21st at 1:30 p.m. in the Atlantic City municipal court.

The original court date was July 12th before it was adjourned twice. The second trial was scheduled for Monday, August 6th.

Wyatt was charged on June 10 with engaging in prostitution and resisting arrest while in Atlantic City. The senior was one of 28 people charged as part of a two-day prostitution sweep conducted by the city's Special Investigation Unit.

The 6-foot-4 shooting guard will be the Owls' top returning player next season. Wyatt, a Norristown High graduate, averaged 17.1 points and had a team-best 69 steals last season. He was a second-team all-Atlantic Ten selection.

Wyatt was held out of the Owls starting lineup three times for disciplinary reasons.

Temple’s Wyatt Tops List of Philahoops’ Preseason Honors (Philahoops - August 15, 2012)

Temple senior guard Khalif Wyatt has been named the Philahoops Preseason Player of the Year, Philahoops editor Aaron Bracy announced today.
Fran Dunphy can't afford to undo all the work he's done to improve the reputation of Temple basketball after years of off-the-court trouble under former coach John Chaney.

At 24 seconds into the video, John Chaney attacks John Calipari and clearly shouts: "I'll kill you !"

Classy stuff.

Major difference between private, Catholic schools and a public college.

Re: Whatever Happened to Khalif Wyatt?

They are waiting until the trial happens. It keeps getting pushed back so no decision has been made or will be made until after that happens.

Re: Whatever Happened to Khalif Wyatt?

So it was pushed back again from Aug 21st?
The Owls will need his experience on the floor this year. He has come a long way since Norristown and I hope it works out for him.
I hope he is not suspended for the non-con part of the schedule, only to come back and shred the a-16.

Yeah pushed back twice actually now. I am hoping for the best, it's such a stupid thing to wreck your senior season over.

I think another factor is the location of each incident. One happened on campus, while the other did not.

Re: Whatever Happened to Khalif Wyatt?

What ever happens in Atlantic City stays in Atlantic City. He made a big mistake and it was really dumb, but it's not as if he's roaming North Philadelphia soliciting prostitutes. I'd be surprised to see him suspended more than a couple games at this point.

There are student athletes doing much worse like firing AK-47s and committing armed robbery, so I'll take this any day. Other than the embarrassment aspect, I dont understand why it's a big deal. Talking about the oldest profession and something legal pretty much everywhere in the world.

Dumbest statement I have ever heard. You truly are delusional. You are basically saying if a guy commits manslaughter in Compton then it's excusable because he didn't commit it in a nearby LA suburb.

Then your boy JHG722 follows up by saying that other kids have committed worse crimes so it's ok.

That doesn't make it right. This is inexcusable. A crime is a crime. Take your cherry-colored glasses off for a second and understand that Khalif Wyatt BROKE THE LAW and VIOLATED HIS STUDENT CODE. Dez Wells gets kicked out of his university for a crime he didn't commit and Khalif just gets off easy as if nothing happens. Yeah right. Khalif Wyatt should be expelled and held accountable for his actions just like any other player in the A-10 would be. If he's not expelled, this may turn into a media disaster for Temple.

I don't think he's just gonna get a couple of games.
