Re: Thoughts on new season
If Duquesne wins 7 games in the A10, they will have the COY and at least two all rookie players and an all league player. Not happening. Sorry.

Re: Thoughts on new season
My A10 top 5:
1)ST. JOES 2)ST. LOUIS 3)UMASS 4)VCU 5)Butler This is SJU year, Jones will lead the A10 in scoring and Galloway will not be too far behind , to make the highest scoring back-court. They are not on the same level but will be reminiscent of a Nelson & West SJU back-court. I think the two new schools Butler and VCU will sneak up on everyone and finish top 5.

Re: Thoughts on new season
In hindsight, 7 is probably a stretch looking at our schedule, but I would hope no coach wins COY for doing just that. The situation at Duquesne is bad but it's not that bad. People in this thread are acting like we won't not win a game.

Re: Thoughts on new season
This could end up being a very big blow to Richmond as projected starter Alonzo Nelson-Ododa has been suspended from team activities after being charged with a felony (aggravated battery) from an incident in his senior high school season.

Re: Thoughts on new season
I will wait and see where the ANO situation goes at UR.
On one hand, I assume that Richmond did all the due diligence in the world in choosing to accept ANO into UR 9 months after this high school incident occurred. By doing so, it seems that the UR powers that be believe and trust the claims that he acted in self-defense - as his HS coach and fellow HS teammates seemed to indicate at the time. Additionally, reports on ANO indicate he has been nothing but a good kid since coming to UR. Finally, the fact that UR didn't suspend him from all activities - my guess because they have already done the due diligence on the incident - indicates a level of support. I would hope that the suspension of any activities are at the advice of the UR lawyers, as things get sorted out. My hope is that UR, after doing more due diligence and consulting with its lawyers, chooses to allow ANO to play. This is not a new incident but an old one, one the school was already aware of from his HS days (he was suspended after the incident but later reinstated to play back in HS, presumably based on the accounts of what happened) and thus I don't see the logic, merit or justification for altering a young kid's life drastically while the legal side of things plays out, which could take a long time. Then again, as someone pointed out on UR's board, this is Georgia we are talking about.

Re: Thoughts on new season
The timing seems odd. Two years after the alledged assault and right before official practice starts. You have to wonder if the "victim" was trying to shake someone down for some monetary damages?

Re: Spring Sports
Surprisingly, it has. I just checked, Nick Macarchuk from Fordham won the COY in 98-99 with a 5-11 conference record.
Edit: But wait, there's more. Jim Satalin from Duquesne in 82-83 with a 6-8 conference record. Who knew? I actually recognize Satalin's name (I was still a student then), but not the more recent Macarchuk. Edit: Wow, there are even more than that (co-winners with very crappy w-l records in 81. But there are limits to how much I can goof off so I'm done. Last edited by bdance; 10-09-2012 at 10:52 AM. |
