League is looking real good. Recruiting has picked up in the last couple of years and the league is full of good (great) young coaches. In any given year, this league could be the 4th-5th best league. The TV only helps to boost notoriety (bid???) and boosts recruiting opportunities even more.

I suspect the A-10 will be more attractive since our league has gotten strong while the BE has got weaker.
The ACC will pick-up additional exposures primarily becasue of Syracuse, though ND has featured prominiently in ESPN's BE broadcasts as well. However, ESPN will still retain the BE's Tier 1 basketball rights when the BE completes its media rghts negotiations. It's not what people on this board want to hear, but the BE still has far more national brand equity than the A-10 and it's equity that ESPN has spent a lot of money developing over the years. They're not going to just hand that to NBC or Fox and the BE isn't so stupid as to not recognize the value of continued exposure on ESPN exceeds whatever additional money they might earn by taking their Tier 1 rights elsewhere. It's the same reason why ESPN still has the A-10's Tier 1 rights despite the dramatic reduction in exposure for the conference over the past decade. The A-10's new media rights deal is a great accomplishment regardless of the outcome of the BE's negotiations.

Does it say anywhere what the total value of this contract is? what the value is per team? Having more games on somewhere (even if its an undersubscribed CBS sports or NBC sports) is better, but I'd like to know how it compares apples to apples with what Marquette, Nova, St Johns and other non football schools in the Big East will be making on their next deal. I assume the A-10 deal falls behind what those schools will be making, but how much????

It's not in the PR and it's difficult to get accurate numbers on these deals. I think the greatest monetary value to the A-10 in this deal is getting much greater exposure wihtout having to pay for it. The A-10 went with CBSS last time becasue it meant that the individul members didn't have to subsidize at more than 100k/yr/member, the operations of the A-10 Network. It absolutely killed conference eposure, but the presidents were willing to live with that consequence to save money. Now it appears that the A-10 is going to have more exposure, natioanlly and regionally than even before the current contract, and the universities won't have to subsidize getting regional exposure. That is a major accomplishemnt.

The Atlantic 10 television contract has been a sore subject with many of the league's coaches -- especially since the conference has now become a seventh high-major of sorts with the recent addition of Butler and VCU.

Well, the league announced on Tuesday that it has signed eight-year deals with ESPN, CBS Sports Network and the NBC Sports Group for its media and television rights.

Translation: More A-10 games will be on national TV.
I love the 'seventh high-major of sorts' comment. That's great!

NBC Sports network is very available across all satellite and cable plans. If this means an A10 game will be on NBC Sports Network at 7pm every Wednesday and Waturday in January and February I am pumped. If it means they have the rights to produce the game and will distribute it to regional comcast channels to only be viewed locally that is less exciting. I doubt any Pittsburgh channels would pick up the Dukes games based on past coverage. Anyone know for sure?

The money isn't important...it it their moral obligation as catholic schools to band together with Dayton, Xvier and SLU to form a super league.

Let's face it, the average fan doesn't even know who is in the Big East at this point.

If that is in reference to me, I apologize. I always go for the easy joke when possible. You can make fun of a Bonnies player of your choice in retribution (might I suggest a play on Matthias Runs' last name and our school color?)

I hope Dunga is getting a cut on the deal for all his past broadcasting links and efforts.

I didn't know Runs went to the same academy as Kadeem Pantophlet or that Kloof also went there. They are both from the Netherlands as well. Interesting.

Indeed. Charlon Kloof, SBU's point guard, is also a graduate of Canarias Basketball Academy.
