No rising sophomores at Duquesne? Not surprised. Pantophlet, Datt and Torres don't have a ton of potential. So sad to be a Dukes fan.

I like Gathers and think he will be very good for the Bonnies, and part of the reason I though starting him worked is that it let Wright come off the bench where he was much more successful.

It is no coincidence that Gathers' presence in the starting lineup coincided with Bona's drastically improved perimeter defense. Gathers, Kloof, and Conger are all very athletic and play D that reminds me of Tim Winn's Bonnies. It's one of the reasons Bona fans are quietly optimistic coming into 2012-13. Life without Nicholson will be a major adjustment, but returning nine experienced vets from last year's squad is a good start.

Finally a little realism from you. That's the spirit! Keep it up!

Glad to see you posting, even if it is on a limited basis. One rising soph you overlooked was Matt Derenbecker at UD. True, he is an LSU transfer, but he will only be playing for his 2nd year of college hoops.

Guess that makes him a "rising rising sophomore."

I don't agree on Pantophlet and Torres could eventually be a role player. However, if things don't change, this has the making of a lost class.

Re: RISING SOPHOMORES

I didn't think Pantophlet was as good as Bill Clark was his freshman year. Bill averaged over 8 points a game while Panto only got 3.5 points. He would really need to take a step forward in terms of shooting consistency to garner any attention league wide.

it's really hard to put stock in transfers that have sat out a whole season. As most Xavier fans know, it takes a while to get the rust off.

It depends on where the transfer comes from.

LSU, Georgetown, and Ohio State are not the same as Monmouth, Towson, and Western Michigan.

It depends if you would rather have players who realize they are outclassed and bump down or players who are too good and look for better competition.

I would rather have players who accepted basketball scholarships from LSU, Georgetown, and Ohio State than players who could do no better than Monmouth, Towson, and Western Michigan.

Look for Matt Derenbecker, Vee Sanford, and Jordan Sibert to make a big impact in the Atlantic 10 over the next three seasons.
