CBSSports: Preseason expert picks to win A-10
http://www.cbssports.com/collegebask...n-expert-picks
Jeff Goodman: UMass Doug Gottlieb: Butler Gary Parrish: VCU Matt Norlander: Saint Louis Jeff Borzello: VCU With 4 different teams being picked to win the league, the A-10 has less consensus than any other league mentioned in this preview.

Their "expert opinions" mean no more or less than mine, or Muddy or anyone else's.... They are uneducated guesses and in some cases biased guessses (See: Goodman, Jeff and Waters, Muddy)

I know WH is usually within a few games or so of the final standings after reading his predictions going back to the old board (before '03)- hardly "uneducated". Some of these others must have a good track record. |

As WH has said - your more likely to find experts on the A10 here then you are almost anywhere else. Outside of the media who cover the A10 - and here I'm thinking of the Cinci/Dayton people in particular - I don't put much stock in the media perception of any non-BCS leagues.

Re: CBSSports: Preseason expert picks to win A-10
Blue Ribbon and Sporting News have been the best forecasters of the mags. Not sure about the national basketball writers, but I don't put much stock in their predictions, either. They are generalists who know about the top teams in each league and learn about the rest by reading ... Blue Ribbon.
I do like the guys at Chalktalk, Ron Rothstein, the Cincy beat writers, a few others. And Andy Katz is a junkie. But I look mainly at what coaches tell them and interpret myself. After awhile you learn the code for each coach. I've always done predictions just because people like to talk about them. Not because my predictive power is better than that of anyone else. Nobody can predict the future with great accuracy. |

Dick Vitale is a nice guy, but he's a moron when it comes to analyzing college basketball. I say this with the utmost respect.

WH, I suspect you are speaking of Dustin Dow and Shannon Russell, correct?
Both have been notable Xavier beat writers for the Cincinnati Enquirer; what's scary is they do their work for a paper that squeezes them in favor of UC and UK for the most part. |

Yep. They did/do a very good job. I also like the Hampshire Gazette beat writer for UMass. Lot of solid beat writers for the league but hardly any that really stand out.
