The Spiders (3-1) suffered their first setback of the year, while the Gophers improved to 4-0.

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Chris Mooney grabbed his 150th Division I coaching win as the Richmond men's basketball team defeated Wofford 64-58 Tuesday in the Nation of Coaches Classic Tuesday at the Robins Center.

Richmond is off to a 4-1 start for the third time in the last four seasons and it is the 30th time in 100 seasons of Spider basketball that Richmond has started 4-1 or better.

Spiders Tripped Up At Ohio


ATHENS, Ohio - Playing without point guard Cedrick Lindsay for the second-straight game, Richmond led by two with 14 minutes to go but Ohio finished off the Spiders 73-48 Saturday.

The Spiders (4-2) were led by junior forward Derrick Williams who scored a game-high 17 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor while grabbing six rebounds. Senior guard Darien Brothers added 16 points behind 4-of-5 shooting from deep, while sophomore Kendall Anthony chipped in 15.

Richmond’s Williams Named A-10 Player Of The Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - After posting a pair of double-doubles in two Spider wins this past week, University of Richmond junior forward Derrick Williams was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.

In the team's double-overtime victory over William & Mary, the junior posted second double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. The Harlem, N.Y. native then followed that effort with a career-best 26 point outburst in the win over Wake Forest, grabbing 10 rebounds in the win.

Spiders Take Down Wake Forest At Robins Center


Led by a career-best 26 points from junior Derrick Williams, the Richmond Spiders defeated the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 62-60, in the Bank of America Challenge on Saturday night at the Robins Center. The win was third straight for Richmond over Wake Forest.

Williams notched his second-straight double-double in the victory, grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds. Sophomore Kendall Anthony joined him in double figures with 11 points, hitting all six of his free throws down the stretch.

"We our executed our best down the stretch of the game," head coach Chris Mooney said following the win. "We did the things we needed to do to win and certainly made foul shots. Derrick [Williams] was tremendous from beginning to end. I am pleased with the win and looking forward to the next game."

Is it weird that only three guys scored (and only 4 attempted a shot) in this game? Is this typical of Richmond's offense?

No, it's not typical at all, but we do have some holes in places. One factor contributing to it in that game was that Lindsay was out with a concussion. So you have Brothers and Anthony who typically fill up the bucket from the backcourt and Williams up front....all three of those guys are averaging 14 per game, and Lindsay comes in at 9, but he was out.

The rest of our guys are hit or miss in terms of scoring production with none averaging more than 5.8 ppg, and for whatever reason they weren't even putting up shots against Ohio. It worked for the first half, but then we imploded in the second half and as things went bad I think the role players tried to defer to the stars to right the ship, but it didn't work.

Men's Basketball Hands ODU Worst Constant Center Loss


UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Junior Cedrick Lindsay scored a game-high 19 points as Richmond handed Old Dominion its worst loss in the 10-year history of the Constant Center, 80-53 Tuesday night on a game televised nationally on the NBC Sports Network.

Lindsay made 8-of-11 field goals, including 2-of-3 three-pointers to lead three Spiders in double-figures as the Spiders became the first team to win a road game in the series since January of 2001.
