I was having a lot of fun with the Dayton home and away, but I'm not holding my breath for that to come back next year. There is a surprising amount of history between those two teams, but it had to get more intense to become a true rivalry. |

Re: Best rivalries in the league
The worst thing about Z8 is that I really really like Umass. I had season tix with my Dad for years during the 90s! He actually makes me kind of dislike Umass now lol!

Re: Best rivalries in the league
The longest running conference rivalry in terms of games played:
Dayton and Xavier have met 158 times dating back to 1920 In a soon to be ending conference rivalry: Temple and St. Joe's have met 152 times since 1911. In a continuing conference rivalry that may be the oldest in terms of first game played: URI and UMass have met in 138 games dating back to 1908. Last edited by RF1; 10-10-2012 at 12:13 PM. |

Re: Best rivalries in the league
Believe me, I've always liked UMass and root for you guys in a big way unless it negatively affects the Bonnies. I just can't stand those broad-stroked comments about "lower tier" or "upper tier" teams. God bless Lou Roe.

Re: Best rivalries in the league
Having ventured onto the SLU boards a time or 2, there has always seemingly been a mutual respect/hatred from SLU towards UD and from UD towards SLU. The games have generally been tight, there have been some whacky endings, some heart breaking losses on both sides and a pretty decent history.

Re: Best rivalries in the league
Main reason we don't like "UNC-Charlotte" is because over 30 years ago (early 1980s), the hyphen was dropped from any and all offical references to the institution. Of course, it still pops up and I get the impression from the current administration that they really don't care since the most frequent abusers seem to be the local media.

I grew up into a family of Cowboys fans during the 80's, the Danny White days. I'm still a diehard Cowboys fan to this day. And yes, I only made it to one game last year, the one in New England. I guess that makes me less of a fan too... And no I was never a Michael Jordan fan. I don't really have an NBA team that I strongly root for. When it comes to the NBA, I'm mostly a fan of certain players, typically ones that went to a college I root for. Right now I'd consider myself a Timberwolves fan because of JJ Barea. Because of Barea, I thoroughly enjoyed the Mavericks championship run as well. I'll never fully get behind an NBA team, because let's face it, the quality of play in the NBA is depressing and despicable. I'm sorry if I offend you in any way, Bill Russell. I just speak my opinion on this board, and although it may come off as a little bit arrogant, it's not meant to piss off anyone. It's simply my opinion, and if you disagree with it, disagree respectfully. Not like this. It's only a message board, you don't need to take it too seriously. To be honest, when you do that it makes YOU seem more "Pathetic."

Re: Best rivalries in the league
umass-uri, the hate runs deep.
i'll never forget my one and only trip to the ryan center. a group of about 10 of us drowned out the uri fans around us. uri wins literally at the buzzer and the verbal abuse my friends and i got on the way out was sophomoric and unorignal. i thought it fit because that's the way they like to play down at urine.
