As for attacking other fans for no class while using toilet refernces in the same thread, that in itself speaks volumes. Last edited by RF1; 10-11-2012 at 01:33 PM. |

UR seemed to have had short lived rivalries with both GW & XU. But only the week before and after games and only when we seemed to be capable of defeating them as an underdog. Certain incidents with XU teams at our place seemed to help that rivalry along as well. |

Re: Best rivalries in the league
WH, a true rivalry never takes time off, it just doesn't make the front page of ESPN. URI and all the rivals that is has had went very quiet during the Baron years (Dayton excluded "the ghost of Hellenga")but 3 years from now, I fully expect the Northeast/Boston attitude about sports to make the rest of the board reminisce fondly of the time when only UD/X pissing matches took over the board. Though I think this year some great UR/VCU threads are headed our way!

SJU-La Salle is special as a sort of homecoming game and always brings our #1 crowd all season including some La Salle alumni that can't make the commitment as far as season tickets but they circle that date on the calendar and go to it. We don't HAVE to play twice home and home to have that special game, which I think might diffuse some of that once-a-year energy that a packed house with both teams entire fanbases can give you. I like the neutral site, one shot deal because it makes the game very intensely watched and gives it a winner take all kind of feeling. If we had home and home, it would be less than half as intense, with a crowd of 3,400 each instead of 8,000+. Therefore I, as a La Salle fan, totally don't mind the 3 Philly schools all getting a travel date for the home and home, instead of continuing to play each other round robin which always seemed to be giving Temple extra home games. La Salle-George Washington and Fordham-St. Joe's are good enough rivalries in that they bring various regional alumni club chapters out for their once a year cocktail hour/reception, and they make for good bus trips. If they were reduced to 24 month journeys, these traditions would be altered (particularly the SJU-Fordham Jesuit showdowns). Temple and Charlotte are a match as it means we don't have to worry about the impact of their leaving the A10 next season, and reassigning their A10 counterparts next year. That's pretty much how it happened for these two teams. |

That sounds like a rivalry to me |

For that matter, SLU-Xavier has also yielded some hard fought, intense contests...
2005-2006 @ Xavier- SLU 59- Xavier 54 @ SLU- SLU 61- Xavier 47 2006-2007 @ SLU- SLU 76- Xavier 65 @ Xavier- Xavier 76- SLU 57 2007-2008 @ SLU- Xavier 70- SLU 68 (Xavier ranked 14) 2008-2009 @ Xavier- Xavier 70- SLU 44 (Xavier ranked 18) vs Xavier- Xavier 66- SLU 47 (Xavier ranked 19) 2009-2010 @ SLU- Xavier 73- SLU 71 2010-2011 @ Xavier- Xavier 76- SLU 68 @ SLU- Xavier 66- SLU 55 2011-2012 @ Xavier- SLU 73- Xavier 68 @ SLU- SLU 70- Xavier 59 vs Xavier-Xavier 71, SLU 64 I view both Xavier and Dayton as rivals, even if they don't view us as one purely based on the competitive nature of the games... |
