Pretty tough to see VCU go from having the most votes in the 'Receiving Votes' category last week to none this week, but that's what a brutal loss to Wichita State will do.

Similar though not quite so deep a drop-off for Saint Louis as well.

It's eating you up inside isn't it? I personally don't think this Xavier team is very good. They are playing more team ball, but you need to when you don't have the "star".

However, this might show that you shouldn't spend all summer predicting how crappy a team might be. It might just come back to bite you in the arse.

Haven't checked in here for a while but I see nothing has changed. The same people/person seem to focus on "What could be" or What could've been" and tend to completely ignore the "What is" factor. I suppose if that's all you have you gotta go with it!! Sometimes you have to deal with reality and quit fantasizing.

I remember sometime back in preseason I said don't count Xavier out...and I was practically annihilated...which I admit at the time I had not taken in to the fact that some key guys had not returned. Xavier has had a easy first three games but I think it safe to say they are better than what most thought.

They are playing better than I thought they would so far, even given the competition. I give some credit to good X defense for why opponents have looked bad.

But Xavier's real problem is less lack of talented starters and more depth, and we haven't really seen situations where depth usually comes into play. Depth issues are likely to manifest in: a) road games when fouls pile up, b) over longer time periods to accumulate injuries, and c) tournament situations causing fatigue. Xavier might get extremely lucky, and not have too many injuries, but I think it's likely Xavier will struggle more on the road and later in the year / postseason than normal.

Xavier still has some very highly recruited guys on their roster. Do they have the studs that they have had in years past, no, but they have some very good basketball players playing team ball right now. I don't see them winning the A10, but they will be closer to the top than the bottom.

I usually sit back in the summer and just let people pontificate on how they think Xavier will do. I chuckle at most of the comments. That is one of the reasons why you won't see me making too many predictions. I would hate for it to be used against me in the future.

X will play 7-8 guys just like everyone else does. Sure, injuries could blow up ANY team. I think they did a masterful job with the schedule to minimize road exposure in the OOC. I still like them against anybody at home. Mack has done a good job of preparing them for the road in prior years, but, yeah, they will probably struggle out there until they figure out how to play together.

I'll take another look a Xavier's stats and Semaj Christon's stats after Xavier has played some of the 'quality' teams on their non-conference schedule, particularly away games and neutral court games.

At the time I made Post # 119 above, Butler had received 22 votes in the November 12, 2012 AP Poll, then inexplicably lost to an underdog Xavier team 62-47.

It was inconceivable to me that a team receiving votes in the latest AP Poll could lose to Xavier, so I considered Butler to have been over-rated in the AP Poll.

Those who voted in the AP Poll agreed with me, as Butler did not receive any votes in the November 19, 2012 AP Poll.

Butler's last two games have conclusively proved that I was wrong about Butler, and I acknowledged that in my Post # 25 above:

If Butler wins tonight, the Bulldogs deserve to be in next Monday's Top 25, and should show up as a ranked team.

If Butler loses tonight, the Bulldogs should be among the leaders in the 'Others Receiving Votes' lisitng.

Quite obviously, Butler has got their act together in a big way - only one week after their loss to Xavier.

The jury is still out on Xavier though, and we won't know what Chris Mack has this season until Xavier plays the meat of their non-conference schedule:

Not sure why you would run a piece that's shows you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about this year (as usual). BTW, have you ever checked Xavier's record @ Cintas? Do you even know who Jimmy Carter is?

One of Muddy's best lines. This sums up just about everything you need to know about him.

This was the first time I looked at Muddy's predictions. Surprised (even for Muddy) he has X losing at Cintas to Vandy (even more depleted than X this year), losing at Cintas to Kent St, and losing @ Wake. Then again, he only predicted 4 OOC wins for X this year, and we already have 3 and it's only half-way through November.
