Re: College Basketball AP Poll Discussion

That's certainly impressive. Butler has been very good over the last 15 years or so, no doubt about that.

I don't think the AP does a final post-NCAA tournament ranking, so I assume you're referencing the ESPN Coaches poll with the #2 finishes in 2010 and 2011.

I believe we finished #6 in the 2011 Coaches poll.

I can't believe VCU isn't getting more recognition in the polls (well, I can, because of how they tend to operate, but it's still absurd). They certainly look every bit like a top 25 team.

I saw a tweet that said VCU is in the TOp 25 for the first time since 1985. Is that true? If so, I would have never guessed it had been that long...

that appears to be the case...

the program in its entire history had more NCAA tourney wins [11] than total weeks spent in the AP top 25 [10] (hopefully not much longer)

though from a motivational standpoint, I'm sure Shaka would just prefer the media keep on underrating his team...

Re: College Basketball AP Poll Discussion

A win for Butler this saturday could move them possibly into the top ten. The rumor is that Rotnei Clarke will be playing. Im not sure that Butler is truly a top 10 team, but it is good exposure for the conference. When was the last time a team other than Xavier was top 10 in the AP poll from the conference does anybody know?

GW hovered between 8 and 6 for 5 weeks in Feb/March 2006 as they went 16-0 in the A10 regular season. They dropped to 14 after losing to Temple in the A10 quarterfinal.

also, all reports I've read indicate Clarke is not expected to play against the Zags.

Thanks, Just saw the new reports, I was reading the one that said his dad expected him to play, but now i see they are expecting him to miss both games this week. Hopefully they can get through these two games without a hiccup

Clarke isn't playing Saturday.

But if Butler beats Gonzaga and move into the Top 10, regardless, that would be 4 of 6 years making the Top 10. They are on 6 of 7 years making the Top 15.

And, to your point on Xavier, I'd imagine that's a primary reason that Xavier and Butler are the new conference's priority.

Re: College Basketball AP Poll Discussion

Butler has reached ranking of 9 in both polls.

VCU is 19 in the AP and 16 in the ESPN/USA Today Poll.

Well done!

BTW, no other teams received votes in either poll.

Re: College Basketball AP Poll Discussion

Very disappointed to see VCU get one more point then La Salle. At least Butler came back and beat Temple to retain their highness in the rankings. Goes to show why polls don't matter.

Re: College Basketball AP Poll Discussion

Steve, If the polls don't matter at all then WHY did you sit there and refresh the poll page every second to see where we'd be?

and why are you always the first to comment on something that does not MATTER?

and why do you care if someone in the A10 gets 4 votes and someone else gets 3? I can see conference bias being a reason for concern, but these two programs getting votes are both good for the A10.
