Re: Open Exhibition Games
But hey, Toupane got to play. The Bonnie's played a very different game than they did last year. Once all the sloppiness gets worked out, I think the Bonnies will be exciting to watch.

Re: Open Exhibition Games
SLU beat up on Rockhurst, D-II Jesuit from KC, 79-47.
McCall had 14, Evans 12, Remuken 10 & 7. Good on some of your programs for playing high quality exhibition opponents. SLU rarely does. We have 2 very highly ranked former NAIA now D-II schools in close proximity whose rosters are largely comprised of former D-1 players or D-1 caliber guys who couldn't make grades and we never play them. Instead we schedule teams with no players over 6'5 or some horrible team with a loose connection to SLU. We only have the exhibition games for extra revenue. We had maybe 4000 people show up today, schedule an exhibition against a local D-2 powerhouse and that number could double. |

I love how Dayton brings in schools like Findlay and Walsh. They can't match UD with talent, but they are talented teams who play sound basketball. Game scenario with speeds of play fairly close to regular season. I see teams playing D3 and crappy NAIA programs...better off going back to the old rules and playing 25-35 year old barnstormers like Athletes In Action. I do wish the NCAA would allow a preseason game vs another D1 school. There's really no reason not to. "Closed scrimmage" is nonsense. Create a 5 day window where D1 can play D1 as an exhibition. It hurts no one and helps everyone. Looking forward to Dayton's second game tomorrow night. Full week of practice between games, they should have some more rust knocked off. Looks like we'll get to see Dyshawn Pierre for a bit, too. Coming off a sprained ankle.

Re: Open Exhibition Games
Stenger played really well for X. Philmore slow, unathletic. Did not impress. X will go as far as Semaj will take them... and he's the real deal.

Re: Open Exhibition Games
UMass defeated neighboring American International College of Springfield, MA, 87-82. Earlier in the day, it was announced that three UMass players were suspended for the game due to a violation of team rules. They were Jesse Morgan, Trey Davis, and Cady Lalanne. This left UMass with two guards active for the game and they played 37 (Williams) and 38 (Riley) minutes apiece. This is the first practical demonstration of how much the team misses/will miss the injured Javorn Farrell, who could play either guard position as well as SF. AIC's stocky 6'7" center apparently pushed around UMass sophomore center, 6'8" Maxie Esho. UMass freshman Tyler Bergantino at 6'9" and 250 lbs was more able to cope with the opponent and was one of the bright spots for UMass. Riley and Williams both had good shooting nights and scored more than half the team's points between them. Another freshman, seven footer Isaac Freeman apparently looked pretty fleet getting up and down the courts and had a couple of nice baskets, but looked a little lost on defense. Opinions differed as to how limited Sampson Carter was by his slow recovery from surgery. Raphaiel Putney was the same old same old, now you see him now you don't. That's a major disappointment.
