Re: Open Exhibition Games

GW beat Catholic University 72-46. The defense and rebounding were outstanding against the DIII opponent, but the offense was mediocre.

GW played without David Pellom, who is out until December, and Kevin Larsen, who is expected to start at C, played just a couple of minutes because of injury.

Isiah Armwood was extremely active with 17 rebounds and excellent defense, though he struggled to convert close in shots (7 points, 3 of 9 shooting).

Freshman PG Joe McDonald had a couple of bad luck fouls that messed up his day (fouled out in 18 minutes), but still managed 6 assists and 3 steals in just 18 minutes, and showed decent flashes.

Patricio Garino showed the all-court game that has the coaches raving about him (defending multiple positions, passing, ball handling and being able to score inside and out). He didn't look for his shot much (10 points on 3-6 FG), but you can tell he's going to be special. Really seems to understand the game.

Dwayne Smith led the team with 14 points, mostly just overpowering the small opponent around the basket. Kromah chipped in 12, though missed too many open shots in the 2nd half (4-10 FG for the game).

Lastly, hopefully reflective of the new talent and change in philosophy to more of a passing/cutting/open shot based offense rather than the one-on-one (or one-on-three) offense most A-10 fans have seen the last few years is that GW had 20 assists on 27 baskets.
