Re: Dribs and drabs
Briante Weber had 13 points and 10 steals in 18 minutes in last night's game for VCU. Former NBA and ACC assistant Andy Enfield had this to say after the game:
Quote:
In his 1st game as an A-10 player, Briante took the 2nd-most steals of any player in A-10 history in 18 minutes. Mark Macon of Temple holds the record with 11. Briante's steal percentage was 31.3% last night, which is basically every 3 possessions he was on the court. He led the country in steal percentage last year as a freshman and his 7 percent mark was the highest of any individual player in college basketball since the 2002-2003 season. He's very special on defense...and he's just a sophomore. I'm pretty excited about his future here.

Loved the Bonnies defense. They shotoorly yet were in control the whole game. Defense wins when your shot is not falling. I really love this years edition!

Re: Dribs and drabs
The Bonnies are going to be better than expected because they gained invaluable confidence and experience last year and, just as importantly, the returning players are under-appreciated because Nicholson was so good. Seems that way from afar at least.

Re: Dribs and drabs
Broken record time for me, but I think we'll see Bona's this year in the same way we saw La Salle last year. Very low expectations, but talent all over the court. Conger will be the man, but as we saw last night, there will be points coming from all over the court.
As for La Salle this year, I'm worried about them having high expectations. The talent is there, but I get the feeling that we're underrating the loss of Pettis. Pettis was the guy when they needed a stop or a score all year last year. He also allowed them to go four guard because he was able to rebound some as the fourth guard. There is far greater depth this year, but a lot will be riding on Wright (who we definitely be able to handle it) since he will get more attention this year. Zach and the freshman Davis will have to make up a lot of the minutes and production Pettis had last season. I wouldn't be surprised to see La Salle have a similar season to Bona's last year, where they struggle for a while, then get it together late. I also think N'Doye will be on that list with Wright, LaLanne, and Williams by the end of the year. I don't expect over 10 ppg, but I think we'll see a lot of the 7 points, 7 rebounds, 5 blocks type of games that we saw last night. I can also see him staying out of foul trouble since he seems more willing to give up buckets (not a bad thing in some situations) and avoid the foul rather than contest everything. |

Re: Dribs and drabs
Yep. That was the plan. They were both committed to VCU in the same signing class.
We still have a pretty decent theft tandem between Briante and our starting point guard Darius Theus. Together they combined for 178 steals last year, which was the highest of any tandem in the country. With Pierria' in the mix, VCU may have been even more dominant nationally in the category, but there's also the other side of it where maybe there were only so many minutes to go around and it ended up being a good thing. It's tough to deal in hypotheticals, but we ended up being just fine and I'm sure 49ers fans are happy to have Henry in the fold over there as well.

Re: Dribs and drabs
X also leads in Adjusted FG% at 81% with the next closest at 746%
81% Also lead in Points/Shot at 1.92. Butler better not let X get the ball over half court. Love minutia.

Re: Dribs and drabs
Aaric Murray did slightly better with 14 points and 4 boards but still picked up 4 fouls in just 26 minutes!
