[QUOTE=Flyer75;6977219]Possibly the worst game I've ever seen Dillard play at UD and he somehow managed a double double

Can't remember which Temple fan kept saying Sanford was nothing but an average A10 player...if that... well, I'm chuckling a bit now.

I believe I read that Georgetown was really looking forward to him being a starting guard there. He sure can shoot outside and inside. He may be better than Paul Williams and Josh Parker. Who said he was average and what was their rational?

In the Flyer program they listed Kendrick Washington at 6'7". He sure looks bigger. Must be his weight.

Just a guess but it may have had something to do with his first 2 years.

Stats don't exactly scream star

Re: 11/10 A-10 Games

Vee Sanford is beginning to look like a heck of a pick-up for us. He can score inside and out, and the guy can defend too. That makes a darn good starting backcourt with Dillard.

Benson is the suprise of the year so far for me. His new-found ability to hit the 15-20 foot jumper is going to make it hard to find the right guy to defend him because his length is hard to handle driving to the basket.

UD fan, and it pains me to say it, but you've got to give kudos to Xavier. Given who was expected to play for them coming into the season and who suited up in their first game, their margin of victory was impressive. I realize FDU is not a top 25 team, nevertheless the point differential was impressive.

Rubbish.

More rubbish.

Xavier blew out the reserve players on a rubbish team. Cincinnati Moeller HS would have done the same.

Xavier Beats Fairleigh Dickinson 117-75 (The Associated Press November 9, 2012)
Both teams opened the season with depleted rosters.

Fairleigh Dickinson cut ties with senior guard Lonnie Hayes before the start of the season and disciplined four players for the opener: senior forward Kinu Rochford, junior guard Sidney Sanders Jr., sophomore guard Dylan Moody, and freshman guard Sekou Harris.

Senior guard Melquan Bolding was the top returning player for the Knights, who went 3-26 last season.

The Knights hit a few quick 3s at the outset to keep it close, leading 15-14.

. . . but crow about the point differential all you want.

Re: 11/10 A-10 Games

I was getting all revved up by all this Dayton excitement. A little digging and now I know they beat a team that finished last year with an rpi of 224 and a road record of 2-14. Beat them at home by 13 points, whoopee!

I see where Butler's two starting guards combined for one assist in their home victory. La Salle had a dogfight at home with Delaware, a 150 rpi team last year. And Xavier, yep, they really dominated. Against a team with that finished last year with a 330 rpi. Seriously, why are they even playing them? It's an rpi suck for the whole conference. Guess I'm just in a crappy mood this msorning.

Re: 11/10 A-10 Games

Poorer teams are usually poorer shooting teams that struggle to create baskets.

GW lost to Youngstown state for that reason. The Colonials did not generate a lot of easy shot opportunities and when they did, they often missed. Seniors Kromah, Byrnes and Smith were a combined 6-23 and GW shot 27% on treys.

The defense was a problem in the first half, too. Colonials tightened up in the second half but the damage was done. They played catchup the whole way.

I thought Youngstown State was well coached and they played a good game.

Good news for GW is that the team has some talented youngsters who will get better rapidly as the year progresses. Frosh PG Joe McDonald was shaky to start and had five TOs, but he has a college-ready body and looks like a player. He settled down in the second half.

Small forward Patricio Garino was the second leading scorer and top rebounder for the game. He looked like GW's best all round player.

Still, if GW doesnt get more from its seniors it will be a long season.

Re: 11/10 A-10 Games

LaSalle beat a good Delaware team in the most impressive showing of the weekend. It was all the more impressive because the team's stellar backcourt trio of Duren, Mills and Galloway were a combined 7-29.

The Explorers actually won on the strength of their frontcourt - Steve Zack had 19 points and 8 boards and Jerrell Wright had 14 and 10. If Zack has really improved that much, the Explorers are going to be even tougher than I thought. Big concern is frontcourt depth. LaSalle basically has none.

You must be in a bad mood. I'm rather pleased with every result you are minimizing.

Arkansas State isn't going to wow you, but they are well coached (John Brady who took LSU to a final four) and play in a respectable league. A 13 point margin is pretty wide, and Dayton was never once threatened. Delaware is a quality team in a quality league. I don't think anyone would expect any A10 team to blow them out. LaSalle got the win. All we can ask.

Xavier played the worst team you mentioned by far, but they ran them out of the gym. They can't control FDU leaving half their team at home, nor can they control FDU having very little practice time because of a hurricane. All Xavier could control is how they played, and they performed about as well as they possibly could.

Has Delaware improved that much over last year? That beating them--you could say, "edging them"--at home is impressive?

They are good enough that beating them can never be labeled as unimpressive, especially in the first game. Picked second in the CAA.

Re: 11/10 A-10 Games

Delaware could beat most A-10 teams on any given night. So relative to the competition, LaSalle had the most impressive win, especially in the manner in which the Explorers won. Remember, Delaware beat LaSalle last season. Good to see the Explorers return the favor.

A-10 fans don't like it when BCS schools don't give us credit. We fans should not do the same to other leagues.

I think as UMass fans we probably shouldn't be complaining who other teams are playing.

Agreed. Not trying to say Dayton's was some quality win, but Ark St was picked second in their conference. They were decent. Lots of the over-excitement is just because its the first game.

Xavier played a terrible team, but it looks like they will be better than everyone gave them credit for, especially if Davis is good.
