Re: Enough is Enough
Free speech does not exist everywhere for everyone. Examples abound. Newspapers, TV stations, talk shows, all have the right to control their forums, they are not public property. They all have the right to create rules, enforce (sometimes arbitrarily) rules and regulations about content, language, and civility. Arenas prohibit signs routinely. This forum is owned and operated by individuals who have those same rights. When Snipe ran his own board, he did the same thing.
Snipe is on record as admiring commentators who piss people off. He likes to piss people off. It's sometimes funny, sometimes not so. He revels in it. He wallows in it when he gets banned. He knew exactly what was prohibited, and went forward anyway, asking for it. It's amusing when moderators from other boards who routinely ban users come here defending Snipe and bemoaning his banning. It's extra ironic in the case of Snipe, who lead a concerted and successful effort to ban a user on a Xavier board. |

Just out of curiosity, if you had no clue who Warren Buffet was, and joined an investment club of which he was a member, would you question why everyone else held him in high regard even though YOU didn't know him or know why? You just started posting 10 months ago. Is it possible that these two have earned the respect which you question?

Re: Enough is Enough
It would be possible, had I just started reading at that point.
As for the posters in question, they don't bother me at all. I like reading WH's opinions, as I like reading many other opinions. Sometimes, it just seems like many on here (including WH himself, at times) think he's the only guy that watches a lot of A10 basketball. As for Snipe, he just likes attention. Doesn't bother (or entertain) me in the least. |

Re: Enough is Enough
Throwing my 2 cents in....I think WH provides some nice insight. I, too, watch a ton of A-10 basketball and I find his opinions accurate. Snipe is a side show that is occasionally amuzing, but pretty easy to avoid if you care to avoid. I generally skip most of his rants (except possibly after a big X win when I find it amuzing while celebrating).

Re: Enough is Enough
Hey, thanks for sticking up for me, Knobby. (-:
My feelings aren't so easily bruised, though. SpiderDave is a newbie and, well, it shows. Nothing wrong with that! Heck, I even laughed out loud when I read his post. On a thread dedicated to the non-offending life, Dave uses language that should put him in temporary purgatory with Snipe. Now THAT would be a real treat. Ah, the irony. No matter. I post here because I love hoops. If some people want to accord me a modicum of respect, I won't complain! Besides, I'd rather be overrated than underrated - or not rated at all.

Re: Enough is Enough
Au contraire, mon ami!
My feeling are not bruised in the least - you could even say I am amused. And we welcome all opinions on this board. Somebody has to set that WH guy straight. He doesn't know Jack - or Jill! - about A-10 hoops. For that you'll need to pay attention to that Snipe character ... |

Re: Enough is Enough
As someone who is in "upper management" on another large message board...I can say that a lot of rules that result in people getting banned/suspended are in place because the people who sponsor or put ads on the forum have some stringent guidelines should you wish to continue getting money from them.
Since this site is "Brought to you by motorcycle.com" and has quite a few ads that get rotated in, it seems reasonable that something similar may be in place. This is a very public forum that can show up in search engines, and the servers to maintain it don't pay for themselves. The ad I currently see at the top of the screen is Verizon - a major company like that would probably rather remove their ads from this site than risk the potential of being associated with a site that's fine with people making racist comments (whether they were serious or in jest). Those are my two cents. |

Re: Enough is Enough
I think Snipe might be reeling from the political blow of the presidential election. If you are familiar with his political tilt and then throw the X offseason on top of it, it's a dangerous cocktail.

Re: Enough is Enough
I, for one, am not embarrassed for fellating Snipe or WH. Then again, I am a liberal. Not as defined by modern American political parlance, but in the classic 19th century meaning of the term. I admit that WH loses a little of my respect when he gets off his wheelhouses of A10 basketball and malt whiskeys, but he's still good people. And Snipe? Well, you either get him or you don't. Frankly, I don't. I love the guy, nonetheless. And why isn't anyone banning rosceaux or Bona84? They're the real problem here.

Re: Enough is Enough
Nothing wrong with a little fellating, res. Between consenting adults, that is. But, you may be right. Apparently my apolitical nature on this board really rubs people the wrong way.
