I would not have complained had moderators not made their arguments personal. All you have to do is cite the need to conform with the standards of advertisers who support the site. That's an argument that holds great sway with me and any business-minded person. Accusing users of your site of the very serious (and vastly overused) charge of racism, however, is a bad idea. Moderators would do better to stick to blander admonishments about avoiding "offensive" language. |

Re: Enough is Enough
"Insulting' Muddy is really impossible but the mods haven't figured that one out yet. He trolls for insults with every post. Mods let the ridiculous post stand (Starting a post like Jalen Reynolds died comes to mind, I nearly got banned on that one). Then when someone gives it back to him, he runs to the the mods and complains. Last guy in gets the infraction points.

Re: Enough is Enough
My only contribution to this thread is to say that the Mod who mentioned Snipe's 'life issues' was off base. I actually know Snipe, although admittedly not very well, but he is a functional and pretty normal individual. Taking an unsubstantiated shot at a poster's personal life, particularly when you don't know him, is a low blow IMHO. Particularly when he is not around to defend himself.

What would you call this behavior? Normal? The key is we have to deal with the mess he leaves behind here. You guys want to enjoy the freedom of this board (and we really stretch the rules here for the A10 participants), but when someone finally goes over the edge you want to criticize a moderator's action, as a sign of "solidarity" (or whatever you want to call it). No one gets paid here to put up with the bullshit coming out of this forum. The moderators work hard here to keep things moderately clean, and therefore no moderator abuse will be allowed here. That's the bottom line. If you guys want to take potshots at me, that's fine. After being here most of the 11 years this site has been online, I have a pretty thick skin. But the reality of this situation is that this board, and some of its participants, continually cross the line and nothing is done about it because the moderation on this board is pretty liberal. So if you want to keep it that way, I suggest you back off talking about moderators or administrators. If you want to discuss moderation of this board here in this thread, that's fine...but keep it constructive.

Re: Enough is Enough
Well, I'm fairly new to all this compared to some of you.
But I've been bantering back and forth with Snipe on the XUhoops board for some time. He's smart, witty, and has a very dry sense of humor. And we do not see eye to eye on politics...but we share a love of Xavier. Unless he has personally used his level of alchohol intake as an excuse (for some post) I am going to assume you all are making that up. Drunk or sober, how would you know? His posts are all lucid, often fact filled and cited. As to whether moderators should ban someone for a pharse or post, that's all up to you. I find WH's suggestion compelling. Just delete the offending sentence and everyone wins. Give out a warning...whatever. Not sure what the "progressive" steps were; I couldn't see them. Good back and forth between people helps the latent strenght of the board. Many times I have looked at other forums on this site, and the A10 had far and away the most people on it, involved, etc. I'm thinking that banning a Lifetime Member (?) who has paid I'm assuming a lot of $ for that designation, may not be the greatest marketing move in attracting supporting members.

Are you volunteering? Is WH volunteering? We have a huge moderator burnout on this board. The reason? You guessed it. We do things the old-fashioned way, and the moderators spend hours a day on here cleaning up the crap. And guess what? They just can't do it...nobody can. THAT'S there are suspensions.

I've lost count how many times I have suspended Muddy. Or maybe you just conveniently forgot that.
