My apologies Shaqtus - as hard as this may be to believe - it wasn't until this morning that I realized Snipe was banned AGAIN. I thought everyone was was referring to last season. I'm not too bright.

I like this board. Lots of smart posters and great discussion on A-10 basketball (something I find myself caring about more through osmosis, even). Keeping things civil isn't so bad, you know?

It's hard to practice censorship and then find good arguments for why it's necessary to curtail freedom of speech.

I am an old-fashioned ACLU type when it comes to free speech. I will defend the right of anyone to say anything, no matter how much I disagree.

The problem is, even the ACLU is now unwilling to protect all "offensive" speech. It depends on who is offended. And that's why I have such a big problem with censorship. These days lots of people are easily offended about lots of things. It gets worse all the time.

My advice to the moderators, welcome or not, is simple. Don't set the bar too low and invite this kind of reaction. I have seen some of Snipe's truly offensive posts and a reasonable case can be made for their deletion.

The latest one did not rise to that level, not even close. A tree fell in the forest and no one heard it - except for a single moderator who probably has Snipe on a Watch list.

El Shaqtus, I'd recommend closing this thread too and letting not-so-sleepy dogs, including me, go back to our other business on this board.

I am not really calling for an end to the discussion, res, but it's obvious are complaints will have no effect.

If the moderators really want to close the discussion, as they closed the last thread, I figure they should close this one as well. Otherwise I will keep posting to it! (-:

I'm not going to get into a goofy debate over whether "free speech" can/should exist on a sports message board. I do, however, take issue with this statement. For whom has the ACLU refused to step up?
