Butler is weak folks. They have no guards that can penetrate the paint. Will be a big problem in league play. Welcome to the A10 Butler, even a weakened X team is a lot bigger, faster and stronger.
I actually don't care if X wins this....a few Butler fans here are going to get a dose of reality today. Clarke looks like a poor mans Redford. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using VerticalSports.Com App |

Re: 11/13 A-10 Games (Huge day!)
I am still not sold on DK, other than his recruiting ability.
The talent Umass has should have been overwhelming to Harvard today. Also, their freshman guard outclassed Chaz. He played like a seasoned vet, while Chaz continues to look out of control most of the time. I wouldn't say most of the passes Chaz made that were bobbled or missed were the fault of the recipients. The PG shouldn't be shoving or forcing passes just because he ran out of room or got in trouble. A lot of the time I see Chaz dribbling around the court and then running up the middle into a crowd while everyone else watches. He obviously is an athletic and talented guy but if he cant start distributing as well as he scores I don't see Umass improving a lot over last year's result. I think DK and Ron Everhart had a lot in common. They encouraged that fast paced game that relies on steals and transition points. They also don't really have a good plan that can be executed in a half court kind of game. Oh, and DK was able to get a lot more talent. Just my thoughts. I really want to see Umass get back to the tournament and still think they have their best chance in 10 years to get there. I am just discouraged after that performance.

First half seemed to be about what x was doing, this half is about what butler can't do. I was encouraged by Roosevelt jones' 6 ast in game 1, but they have to get Clarke the ball with his feet set. Everything comes together from that.

Re: 11/13 A-10 Games (Huge day!)
Stat sheet doesn't always tell the whole story. Of course he will have a lot of assists, he is the only one who handles the ball. Plus you can add all the times he got blocked for missed a layup to this turnover numbers. Chaz looks like the same guy he was last year and that didn't get Umass to the NCAA tourney. The pitiful non con schedule wont help this year either.

I would clarify this by saying the effect of butler's hole at pg is magnified by their two top offensive weapons being so dependent on playing with a creator type.

Re: 11/13 A-10 Games (Huge day!)
Whatever. Wasn't pretty but it was a win. If I remember correctly the 96 UMass Final Four team struggled to beat a perennially weak Duquesne team and it didn't hurt their season.

I had hoped for a Xavier win today - certainly didn't expect this one to turn into an ass-kicking. |
