Re: CHARLOTTE and RICHMOND
That destruction was helped by Javarris Barnett shooting 5-6 from 3 though. Hopefully someone can step up into that role, but he was a nightmare of a matchup for a team like Davidson.
I expect to beat ECU, not as confident about Davidson, but still optimistic. If we start 8-0 I'll be very very excited. |

Re: CHARLOTTE and RICHMOND
Can we get a little love, A10 fans?
What an incredible start for the Niners. Even more exciting is that we start 3 freshmen and 2 sophs...and they all contribute. Clark and Clayton are just beasting. Last night they combined to be 13-17 from the field for 26 points and 15 rebounds! Henry's stat line may have been even more impressive. 11 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals, 5 assists. The future looks bright for Niner fans! |

Re: CHARLOTTE and RICHMOND
Well, I've given the Niners love several times! It was evident early on that this team has something going on. Henry is becoming a star and a leader - even without a consistent J - and the frontcourt bucks (Clayton and Clark) are unusually productive for young A-10 bigs.
Unfortunately, shooting will be a sore spot this year. Zone zone and more zone. My guess is it will preclude a top three finish, but I definitely think postseason play is a good possibility. |

Re: CHARLOTTE and RICHMOND
Yeah shooting has definitely been a sore spot for us.
Williams is money on his 17 foot jumper, but move him back just behind the arc and he can't buy a bucket. I think he is 1-18 on the year from behind the arc now. Just terrible. Ingram and Benkovich can shoot, but they don't see nearly as much floor time as the other guys and I don't expect that to change as we move into tougher competition from Miami, FSU, and A10 teams. |

Re: CHARLOTTE and RICHMOND
After the Lutz years, and his obvious dislike of moving to the A10, I now wonder if Charlotte's return to the New, but hardly improved, CUSA will affect recruiting in the years to come. Right now, and in the last few years, the A10 has had a reputation of being a pretty darned good league. And, obviously, it has attracted some excellent players. And coaches.
Now that Charlotte is about to be dropped into a basketball cesspool that CUSA is, I have a hard time believing that Major will have as much success bringing in new talent. And, it is clear that Charlotte will not have the revenue that it does in the A10. I can only imagine what a CUSA television contract will look like when they are trying to sell Southern Miss, FIU, La. Tech, North Texas, UT-San Antonio, FAU, et. al to any kind of sports network. And, how would you like to try to sell basketball tickets when those teams play in Charlotte?

The A10 will never get a television contract like CUSA because it doesn't have football. Even mediocre football gets more money than good basketball. CUSA has a few historically good programs in UAB, UTEP (who just signed a class that would make every team in the A10 jealous), ODU (having a bad year, but generally very good), Tulsa (always solid, but rarely a tournament team), and a Marshall program that has been fairly solid lately and continues to recruit well. Looks like WKU might be on the way in the near future as well. It's not the A10, but it is not devoid of decent basketball programs. UTSA, FIU, and FAU were horrible adds that have gyms on par with LaSalle...but unlike LaSalle they can't offer recruits playing in a great league. |

Also, glad to see Braswell and the two young freshman using jump hooks this season. They have all looked comfortable shooting them and if done properly the shot is practically unguardable. Bras also seems to have continued his decent 3pt shooting from last season although he only shoots 1 or 2 a game. Athleticism will keep him out of the NBA but he has improved his offensive game enough to make good money overseas when his time at Charlotte comes to an end. |

Re: CHARLOTTE and RICHMOND
Impressed with what Charlotte has done so far. Quite honestly after watching one of the games in Alaska, I would have never seen it coming. They were pathetic and played like they had no coaching and no discipline. Terrible shot selection, terrible ball handling, poor hoops IQ, and no sense of time and score. Cant remember who they were playing but it was a nobody and the other team was just as bad.
Was told at the time it was an aberration and Charlotte just lost their gourds that game and decided to re-live their Leemire Goldwire Bobby Lutz days of Rucker Park basketball. Apparently they were right.

Re: CHARLOTTE and RICHMOND
I've talked with several people in the AAU circuit in areas Charlotte recruits, they personally didn't feel it would change our recruiting that much. At the moment we are landing 4 star players, you can certainly land 3 stars in CUSA.
Also, say Charlotte finished top 6 in A10 this year, we lose Braswell and JT Thompson. We'll be taking a ton of talent with us to CUSA and should be primed for a great first year there.

Re: CHARLOTTE and RICHMOND
I am surprised by the 49ers. I wish you guys were not leaving.
Seems like CMU is very beatable but winning against Miami is extremely unlikely. If the 49ers beat Miami I think they will start to get serious national attention.

Re: CHARLOTTE and RICHMOND
Yeah, I'm not expecting a win against Miami unfortunately, but I feel like we have a legit chance at a win against FSU. I'd be happy with that. It means we'd be 13-1 (maybe 14-1, not sure) going into conference play.

Re: CHARLOTTE and RICHMOND
Niners advanced to 9-0, CMU packed it in against us quite a bit, were able to go 8-22 from 3pt land. Big game next Friday, 7pm at Miami (FL).
