Re: More BCS realignment
Seriously, I had to stop and think if Tulane was currently playing D1 football (BCS, FCS, BS, whatever we are currently calling it). Do they play in the very old Sugar Bowl?

Re: More BCS realignment
In other news Xavier to join Pac 12 as football only member. Makes as much sense.

Re: More BCS realignment
The Big East is completely devaluing its television product in the name of protecting the brand. Every school they add will lower the amount of money each school will get per year. They would be much, much better off staying at 9 or 10 football schools than going to, what 16 now? Learn from the WAC. If you can't get big names, then trim fat. Adding Tulane will not bring more dollars. It just won't. The league will not get a great TV deal, it will be based around selling regional broadcasts. A New Orleans affiliate is not paying big money for a Cincy v SMU game. Ever.
As it stands, the entire fate of the Big East rests on two things: BYU and the ACC. If the ACC decides to take more than one school, the Big East is dead. If the ACC only takes UConn and BYU decides to stay independent, the Big East is in a coma. But now we have BYU flirting with going back to the MWC, which could get Boise and SDSU to stay as well. That would kill the Big East, too, regardless of what the ACC does.

Re: More BCS realignment
I can't imagine that would be true. I really hope not. Good lord, that would suck.

I do not see the A-10 being done either adding schools since Temple and Charlotte are leaving, even though Butler and VCU were added. |

Re: More BCS realignment
adding st. john's and Marquette would be nice for the A10. The addition of more football teams to the big "east" can't sit too well with the basketball schools

Re: More BCS realignment
As the Big East morphs into See The USA, I wonder if some of the Big East basketball only schools will see the A10 as a safe landing place. The original Big East concept is dead now, so why would they stay?
I do think that football-wise, the Big East is staying about the same. UCF is better than Pitt, Syracuse, or Rutgers. SMU is better than Pitt or Syracuse, although SMU stumbled a bit this year. Houston is better than Pitt or Syracuse, and they did fall on their face this year. Long term, the first three replacements will make an improvement. Memphis and Tulane have some work to do in football. ECU is not bad in football, and that is all they are in for. I still think the western members will stay with the Big East. The television package, even if it is less than originally hoped for, is still better than the MWC. And the MWC will always live in the shadow of the PAC12.

Re: More BCS realignment
At first I was laughing at adding Tulane but I see the strategy behind it. A religious, private school with good academics is something that could keep the catholic schools to stay. The TV deal will be higher than the A10 just from Football. Having it even if it is a bad league still makes it more profitable. If they can keep the catholic schools and keep hold of the western branch this can still work out. Obviously there are 50 more chapters to this story.

Re: More BCS realignment
That's my bad. I misread something and thought the whole Big East deal went until the end of the 2013-2014 season. That does change things but it doesn't eliminate that $10 million exit fee. Even with a much worse deal than they currently have, I still see the basketball schools getting more than they would in the A-10.
