Re: More BCS realignment
I think if you ask different Xavier fans, you'll get different responses.
For me, give me the Big East Catholics plus X and some other A10 schools to make the Big East be 10 or 12 teams. It would give us a conference with more like-minded schools who want to succeed in basketball. Also, it would give X a better East Coast presence, which is what the university is trying to improve. I just don't see the need or desire for a 21 team conference. Last edited by BmoreX; 12-11-2012 at 02:17 PM. |

However, you need a ton of TV revenue to make everyone's shares worth it. 20+ teams is more money for the A10, but less for the Big East, and less than what a lot of these schools could split up if they simply left half the A10 behind. And secondly, Why operate as one big conference when you could operate as two, get more NCAA bids? The talk about losing the auto-bid is relatively miniscule. The odds of a new conference being a one-bid league is crazy; and the fallout of a split would be national. Forming a new conference would probably lead to the destruction of another: The Big East Catholics split and raid the A10 for five schools, the A10 is raiding the MAAC/CAA/AmEast/Horizon for 3-5 schools. Each of those conference is replacing their lost members. And at the end of the line, you'll have two conferences with six members each who will simply merge. Odds are, the Horizon/Summit/WAC become two conferences instead of three, problem solved. The only reason to operate as one conference is a TV contract. But there's no rule against conferences bargaining with TV collectively. (There's precedent with the CFA: A consortium of 60-90 schools negotiating a TV deal for football in the late 80s and early 90s. It died with Notre Dame left and signed with NBC, the SEC split off to sign with CBS). Which brings me back to my old crazy idea. 32-teams in four conferences of the best non-football schools across the country, and negotiate collectively with TV. 14 conference games, 4 games against each other, pimp-slap the little guys, refuse to play big football on the road, play RPI games like hell and get 14-16 bids every year. |

Re: More BCS realignment
Could Temple be convinced to dissolve the league with the catholics and go back to hybrid sports? May be more money for us and better competition if we do. Nice to see Temple at least has a little leverage even if it isn't a ton.

Re: More BCS realignment
I would be pissing my self if I was Temple. They and all the recent additions to the Big East have been shafted and they deserve it for their traitorous acts. Think of all the football players who will be disabled or have one too many concussions for the coffers of these schools.

Re: More BCS realignment
Duquesne gets an offer today they are gone. It's everywhere. To say one team deserves it because they actually accomplished something to get an invite is crazy.

I think all the schools who are after the football money deserve it.

Re: More BCS realignment
Yeah not sure I get the whole 'traitorous acts' thing. It's been Temple and Xavier carrying this league for the most part for a long, long time. Others have come and gone, but they've been the mainstays.
They've done more for the A-10 in basketball than any other programs. Also, if any of our schools played football, they would be going after the football money as well. It's naive to think otherwise. This is a business and the almighty dollar rules all.

Re: More BCS realignment
It's amazing how people blame the school for trying to improve itself. Blame the conference commisioners don't blame the schools. It's like blaming someone for accepting a promotion with pay increase and better perks at their job because they worked with Kathy in marketing for 10 years and you are supposed to stay with her even though she calls in sick every 2 days and still acts like it's her first day at work.

Re: More BCS realignment
![]() I am really just messing around. I do think it would be comical if Temple ended up getting shafted in basketball because of their football desires. Especially since they are only known for basketball. And you probably blamed a bunch of your own mistakes on Kathy to get that promotion by the way. She was busy taking care of her disabled child.

Re: More BCS realignment
The 21 team league isn't happening that is the only way Temple can be screwed. Otherwise we would have been in the same position of not being invited to the new league because of Villanova. Either the league stays together and we benefit, we get convinced to dismantle the league and with our vote get put into the new league or the catholic schools bolt with the top of the A-10 and we are in the same spot.I would have made the move 100/100 times even though I love the A-10.

Re: More BCS realignment
To say the 21 team league isn't happening is a little misleading. Sure, I don't think a 21 team league is likely. I do however think it is 50-50 whether A10 absorbs those teams or gets poached and ESPN will have the final say.
