Yeah it would.

7 teams in BE Lacrosse right now:

ND & Syracuse going ACC

Rutgers going B10

Georgetown, Providence, St. Johns, & Nova in the C7


4 teams wouldn't be a viable conference (no autobid) for Lacrosse, but they'd still be able to get At-Large selections like the ACC has been doing all these years.

They might, based mostly on the recent additions

Schools in the B1G that currently have Lacrosse:
Penn State
Michigan
Ohio State

Incoming Schools:
Rutgers (decent program)
Maryland (very good program)


That would give them 5 programs, Maryland historically being the best, but with Penn State having a very good program as well. They'd be 1 short of the AQ to the tournament, which could be a problem (since Ohio State & Michigan don't bring much in terms of SOS) for Maryland, who may prefer to just go independent and make whatever schedule they'd like. If Michigan State brings back their program, they might start sponsoring. In which case Maryland would be fine with winning the AQ every year.

With the BE continuing to fall apart, I still think Bernie needs to be talking to UConn, and Cincy about the A10 sponsoring football. It's a long shot, but the ability to keep playing in NYC each March has to be worth something to those schools. Who cares if it's short term. It would be a massive punch back at the C7.

Interesting. I could see MD pushing back on that until the B1G has more to offer them, definitely an AQ is needed. I could see MD seeking associate membership several places first before signing off on a B1G without AQ. With Loyola leaving the ECAC, that might be a decent fit for MD. Heck, they could even reach out to the PL to see if they would take them in. They'd be an odd match there, but the PL has been known to do that with associates before.

It would be interesting* if Butler, Xavier and St. Louis/Dayton left and the A10 somehow adds Temple, UConn and UC from the dying BE. The A10 would actually come out just as strong if not stronger than it is now.

This is the dream scenario, but I haven't heard anyone anywhere mention it, except for here. I think the remaining BE members will stay as a football conference and not align with basketball only schools. If UConn and Temple went to the MAC for football, maybe they would come over to the A-10 for basketball. But that would require a total implosion of the remaining BE, and UConn not getting an invite to bigger conferences.

Marquette is adding a men's lax team, which gets them to 5. The C7 will likely add an affiliate member to get to 6 for the AQ. Loyola seems like a good bet, since they're already in the Big East for women's lacrosse.

They also would probably love to add the reigning national champs if possible, especially if it provides an auto-bid.



As for the B1G lacrosse department. Best guess is that the three already in the B1G stay where they are conference wise, MD goes independent, and Rutgers tries to get in an east coast league (say the CAA, which is at least a respectable conference, and also currently houses Penn State)

Loyola will be playing Lacrosse in the Patriot League. The PL did not bring them in only to have their best sport play elsewhere.
