Expect several more losses before a win. Best chance at first win is Dec-15 at home against SMU. If they don't win then, they may not do so until Jan-4 versus Brown.

Re: 11/23 A-10 Games

We certainly had a chance to get a W for VCU. We missed the front-end of several one-and-ones down the stretch and had the lead down to 4 at one point.

Tough loss but it's nice to know that we can give Duke all they can handle in November. We'll have either #2 Louisville or #13 Missouri tomorrow so we'll see how that goes.

URI falls to Loyola-MD and VCU falls to Duke. Thank God for X.

Well we were facing a team that flopped non stop(announcers acknowledged it multiple times which I was shocked they actually did). I try to respect coach K but that fact that he is known to straight up tell his players to flop makes it impossible. Seeing near 7 ft guys throwing themselves down is just ridic. No excuse for missing FTs but come on if you are truly #5 in the country you should be able to win without constantly manipulating the refs. Our players got frustrated by it. They kept shaking their heads after flopping fouls. Heck even Shaka told the refs they were flopping. When has Shaka ever called someone out for flopping? That really says it all.

True, but it got completely out of hand. Plus VCU's Havoc press takes a real hurt too. Soon as we pressured them they would fall on their stomachs (even before we trapped them). It created two standards. Duke could play physical against us but if we got near them they would hit the deck. Heck they hit the deck even when we weren't. All I'm saying is if they are as good as their ranking they should be able to win without resorting to cheap tactics.

Charlotte up 32-23 at the half, ORU only shooting 25.8%. Our defense is brining it again so far.

Re: 11/23 A-10 Games

Charlotte wins 72-58. We've now held 4-5 opponents to 58 points or less.

Oral Roberts was one of the top shooting teams in the country and we held them well below their season average.

We play for the tournament championship tomorrow night at 12:30am against Northeastern.

This has been true for a long time, and it gets worse and worse the more the refs "respect" coach K. It's a complete double standard that some teams can do that stuff and others can't, kind of like home vs. road games. It changes the way you can play defense, so your team looks soft on D. It also changes the way they can play defense, as they can hold and grab you a lot more, which helps when Duke has one of their less athletic teams. You can take solace in the fact that Duke will likely underachieve in the tournament again once the refs dial it back a bit and let teams play more physical ball, though they'll still give Duke some preference. I'm always amazed how many non-Duke fans fail to see the obvious advantages they get.

Re: 11/23 A-10 Games

It was pretty bad. Tons of missed calls and a lot of stuff went Duke's way, but you have to expect that when you play Duke.

We had our opportunities to tie and even take the lead. When you miss 6 straight free throws from the 7 minute mark to the 2 minute mark with 2 being the front-end of 1 and 1's in a 56-50 game that had the score frozen for several minutes, you can't blame the refs. We didn't execute and we had our chances.

Just like Wichita State. There will be nights in the A-10 where our shots are not falling and we have to hit free throws. If we can't, we will lose those games.

We can clearly play with anyone in the country, but our poise and execution both in the half-court offense and from the free throw line will be key factors going forward.

It should be interesting to see how we rebound versus #13 Missouri tonight. Phil Pressey is a heck of a point guard and they like to play a similar style to us. That usually plays into our hands as #19 Memphis learned. It will be interesting to see if Frank Haith changes his approach for this game.

Re: 11/23 A-10 Games

Complaining about Duke flopping is like complaining about the weather. Nothing you can do.

Besides, Duke is able to get the calls in large part because the blue Devils get good defensive position. It ain't just coach K. And it's your team's fault if it doesn't adjust.

VCU had every opportunity to win the game. As D-Baller notes, the team missed a number of freebies and one on ones, not to mention some wide open 3-point looks (whereas most of Duke's outside looks were contested). The Rams played well enough on defense to win and outrebounded the Dukies. They just didn't make enough shots when it counted.

Still, I am very impressed with VCU.
