Re: Gooooo Dayton Flyers
It was a nice game by Weber St. I was impressed with their bigs and the one dude was lights out on the perimeter.
But definitely a sad performance by the Flyers, who didn't come out with any energy and let a decent team get comfortable. The freshmen looked bad against veteran players, especially Robinson who forced a lot and was easily beaten on defense. There is a certain obnoxious pressure to playing in UD arena, and its interesting to see who is comfortable with it. When a player misses or the team struggles, especially in a game like tonight where UD is expected to win, there is a palpable anxiety in the crowd and in the players. Devin Oliver, for instance, has never been comfortable in these situations. Tonight, he received a kick out pass late in the game and was open for three, but he swung the ball without hesitation. I fear that Vee Sanford will succomb to the same beast, as he passed up open shots in favor of a 'head fake, penetrate, pass.' At the end of the game, it was all on Dillard. Only, unlike last year, we didn't have three seniors spreading the floor who were ready and willing to shoot when called upon. This game brings up a lot of questions. Do we have enough shooters? More importantly, who is willing to take important shots? |

Re: Gooooo Dayton Flyers
Pressure? Playing at home against a team like Weber St? That's tune up time - not pressure. Every team in this league should expect to win at home, ESP the buy games in the noncon.
Tough loss, but maybe it'll get the players listening to Coach Miller. |

Re: Gooooo Dayton Flyers
REF, you are welcome to that opinion, but my perception is that there is an anxiety in UD arena and for the Dayton Flyers. I am making no judgments about any place else.

Re: Gooooo Dayton Flyers
Hey I-P-on-UD and Knobby, was I making an excuse? I can't even write my perceptions on the game and on the team? Nope, that's just another Dayton fan making excuses. Who exactly is to blame if a team succombs to pressure? (since nothing can be left to inference on this board: its the team's fault if they succomb to pressure, so I am blaming them not making excuses for them)
You guys are on a witch hunt. |

Re: Gooooo Dayton Flyers
I let people have their fun on the Xavier beats Pacific thread for a little while so I had to let this one go for a little while. Threads like this should never be started though. It adds nothing of value.
