OT- Pledge now, save Richmond men's soccer and track
The Carry the Flag for UR group has instituted a pledge drive for Richmond Spiders Soccer and Track. Unfortunately not all pledges are verified, but they should be able to use the many responses as a justification for reinstating the recently axed programs.
For those who don't know the back story, UR sold out two legitimate olympic and conference recognized sports to support lacrosse, which is a glorified club sport with a regional following. This move alone will probably render Richmond ineligible for Big East consideration, and it should get them in hot water with the A10 commissioner as well. http://carrytheflag.weebly.com/pledge.html All pledges are contingent upon the reinstatement of men’s soccer & track. If the programs are not reinstated, you will not be expected to honor your pledge. Your total pledge amount can be made in annual installments spread over ten years. |

Wouldn't you have to also start an equivalent women's sport? If it were up to alums or interested people to just fund things, each school would have, like, one women's sport each.

Interestingly I think the Big East would care more about LAX than track or soccer. There is a relatively good chance that UR joins the Big East Lax conference as an associate member.
