Re: 12/1 A-10 Games
Last couple of games Christon has been fantastic. X is four games above my noncon forecast and he is clearly the main reason.
I assumed he would be pretty good as a frosh, maybe make First Team All-Rook, but that the Muskies would have too many holes for a mere first-year player to carry a team. He is definitely on his way to being the best freshman guard to hit the A-10 since Jameer Nelson. We might even have to go back to Mark Macon. Did X fans expect this kid to be this good? His performance aside, most of his teammates didn't do much offensively at Purdue. They at least played excellent D, though. SJU loss to Creighton is an aberration and should be treated as such. A game like this can happen every so often even to the best teams in the country. Heck, I remember when X pounded SJU in the A-10 tourney when Nelson and West were the starters. Both teams later went to the Elite 8. UMass actually played pretty well. Only 6 turnovers, the defense was solid for 30 minutes and the players got a lot of good looks on offense. Yet UMass suddenly cannot shoot. Team went 7-32 on treys. Miami is an excellent team and obviously well coached. Canes are just flat out better. SBU got 4 steals in the last 67 seconds. How does Buffalo let that happen? Rhody might be a one-man show with Xavier Munford - all Xaviers are overperformers! - but Hurley is doing a great job building the team around him so they are good enough to scratch out wins. As a Umass fan, I have some coaching envy! |

Re: 12/1 A-10 Games
They finally started playing with some energy. They had the same kind of great D in the first half when they built a 10 point lead, but then got lazy on the perimeter. UB's offensive explosion can be attributed as much to our poor defense as their skill. Schmidt subbed out Mosely (who was visibly fatigued and not drawing fouls on his drives like he hoped) with Matt Wright, and that really helped the energy and defensive level. I still like Wright off the bench - he can come in rested and hit a three and handle better.

Re: 12/1 A-10 Games
I can't speak for all Xavier fans, but I certainly didn't expect him to be this good this soon. I figured this season would be more like 2004-05 for Xavier; that was the last time I can remember Xavier having a major roster turnover, even with some players (Doellman and Cage at that time) that had Elite 8 experience at the time. Stanley Burrell and Josh Duncan were both promising freshmen, but they were just that - freshmen.
The team chemistry is a lot different than last season - clearly there's not the same kind of pressure that there was on Victory Parkway at this time last year. There's a reason that UC, for example, doesn't want to play Xavier at Cintas anymore, even if it means not playing at Fifth Third Arena THIS season. |

Re: 12/1 A-10 Games
If I read the first post of this thread correctly, everybody who was supposed to win, did win, except UMass.
Everybody who was supposed to lose, did lose, except Xavier. So, overall an expected and good day for the A10.

Re: 12/1 A-10 Games
The bad news for Xavier fans is that he plans on transferring after this year. I read it multiple times on this board alone so it must be true.

Shouldn't moderators be discouraging people from bumping old threads just to make fun of another poster?
