I like what I see from Armwood. Looks a lot like the player I saw when he was at Montrose. GW needs to run most or all of its half court offense through him when he's on the floor.

I can only imagine the emotion going through the Saint Louis locker room today. Hopefully they channel it into a strong performance, because Valpo is a solid lower conference team that would provide a good test even in happy times.

GW has a terrible time with turnovers, but when they get into their office they do a nice job generating good inside shots even without the threat of the three.

Is there a worse shooter in college basketball than GW's Byran Byrnes?

Not trying to pick on him, but how can a player shoot so poorly in a game he's been playing for years. Brynes is quick and athletic, his shooting form doesn't look particularly bad, and yet he has more trouble putting the ball in the basket than any A-10 player I can recall.

Byrnes shot 33% as a frosh, 36% as a sophomore and 31% as a junior. As a senior he is shooting 25% and that was before today's 0-5 performance. His career 3PG% is below 30%.

Perhaps it is psychological. Byrnes has taken only 25 shots in six games this year. He even blew a layup today.

Just odd to see a kid who has been playing basketball for most of his life have so much trouble scoring despite obvious Div. 1 athleticism.

GW is showing a lot of progress. Isiah Armood is finding his game inside and frosh center Kevin Larsen is doing a great job in Pellom's absence. He has a really nice touch inside and is a fine passer from the top of the key. If he loses some weight and gets in better shape, he could be a Marc Jackson kind of player eventually.

The main reason for the Colonials' improved play, however, might be stepped-up performance of senior Lasan Kromah. He played poorly early on. Now he's acting like he knows it's his senior year. GW needs at least one upperclassmen, preferably two (Pellom when he comes back?) to give the younger guys on the team a big boost. That wasn't the case in the first few games.

GW is so deficient in ball handlers that we are forced to use Bynes more than we would like. He plays good defense, however, but offensively, me may be as bad as any GW player I have ever seen. He is even missing free throws this year. As for the the improvement, some credit also has to go to freshman guard/forward Patricio Garino, who has wonderful court sense for a freshman, is a versitile scorer and plays defense. Perhaps the best of the 5 freshman. Unfortunately for GW, they keep pushing back the availability date of David Pellom (a second wrist surgery was necessary), and the feeling of many is he is lost for the season. Note also that Kromah has one more year after this (he sat his sophmore year for injury). Fortunately for GW, he seems to have now returned to the form that had him pre-season 3rd team All Conference his sophmore year before his injury, as last year he was clearly rusty.

SLU played one of their better games of the season - especially on the defensive side, but still have a long way to go if they're going to contend for the A10 title. Jordair Jett looks to be fully recovered from the groin injury he suffered vs KU, and he had by far his best all around game of the season. Freshman Keith Carter has not played since injuring his knee in the second have vs Santa Clara, although he has been dressed for the last 2 games.

Kwamain Mitchell has said he will be back 'by January'. SLU hosts New Mexico on 12/31.
