Re: 12/6 A-10 Games

Well, a crap night tonight to offset the good from last night. Damn it!

After I post how good the league is both teams look pretty terrible tonight. Ugh. Both games were pretty dire. Not good when on TV vs BCS teams. And not good BCS teams either.

NUmber 11 on Vandy was hitting all the clutch shots.

I know I shouldn't confess my evil homer secret life, but I'm relieved by these scores. After last night, I was thinking my team wouldn't even make it to Brooklyn in March.

X will have nites like this. These kids just learning to play together, not seasoned closers like last year.

Re: 12/6 A-10 Games

We had times of good, crisp team ball tonight. Good passing, cutting, spacing...and actual plays that ended in easy baskets. But for the most part, especially in the second half, we looked very disjointed and uncomfortable. Davis had a horrible night, and has to learn he is too small to go under the basket. Keep the passes coming from just at the foul line. Semaj played well. Could have used more Redford. Robinson disappeared.

Will be a fun season (and frustrating for a fan) as they try to grow together and get better.

(There's an impulse to blame this on the fans at our home court expecting so much and that caused us to be tight and afraid. I'm going to resist that temptation. We played a crappy second half and didn't do enough to earn the win. Our fans had nothing to do with it; nor the atmosphere.)

Re: 12/6 A-10 Games

This is why college hoops is so thrilling and maddening. Vandy was playing terrible coming into this game. Everyone thought it would be an easy win. For almost 30 minutes X had the game in control.

And then? College basketball happened.

Tough loss. Vandy did the best job of any team staying in front of Christon and not letting him drive. They muscled Davis too (other teams, take note). I thought Redford should have been used more and X stopped getting the ball inside.

Vandy has talent. They are young and inexperienced, too. Wakeup call to the X-men to keep playing. No team can be taken lightly at this level.

MEH, gonna get this all season. Wouldn't surprise me to see them turn around and lose another before beating UC. Missed too many open looks and too many FT's down the stretch.

Probably more due to lack of depth. For the most part when someone is really off there isn't anyone else to pick up the slack.

Re: 12/6 A-10 Games

Sadly (for XU fans, at least) the Muskies reverted to the form many of us expected this season...young, not very coordinated defensively, and struggling on offense when the long ball didn't drop. Vandy, I must say, is a really bad team. Xavier tonight was worse.

What a really bad loss for Xavier and the league tonight. Talk about a bad RPI loss. Shouldn't be losing these types of games.

Re: 12/6 A-10 Games

Wouldnt call it a bad loss. Vandy is still finding themselves a bit early in the season but Stallings is one of my Top10 coaches in the country. What he does w/that program in Nashville every year is incredible. I think after UK and Florida they are the 3rd best SEC team by winning percentage in the last 10 years or something. The Dores will only get better. They hardly lose at home and are well prepared every night. They havent figured it out yet, but they will.

Xavier def. had their chances in this one. The Vandy kid just made a cpl big time plays in OT and got the and-1. I thought the and-1 part of those baskets were what really hurt XU. XU also couldnt come up with a big defensive board.

Frustrating loss perhaps, but Id never bet against Vandy once Feb/Mar roll around.

Re: 12/6 A-10 Games

One of the things I love about the pre-conference schedule is teams playing against DII schools I've never heard of. My favorite of today: South Dakota State laying the wood to plain old Dakota State to the tune of 83-52. I'm digging the genericness of Dakota State's name. I hope Dakota State defies the odds by being in Minnesota. I'm not looking it up.

Redford was 1-6 before he hit the second 3 in the last 30 seconds. Terrible night for Brad. Should not have been used more.
