Henton has been forced to be a volume shooter this year because of Providence's lack of depth. 44% for a wing is nothing special, and 26% on threes (and five and half per game!) is reprehensible. Providence just doesn't have a lot of options to take the heat off. Good opportunity for a URI win tomorrow.

Wow if you had told me in July that X would be an 11.5 pt favorite over the defending SEC tournament champs...

I know they lost everyone too, but I would certainly have expected Vandy to bring in talent at X's level, minus the non qualifiers and people transferring.


Either Marist is better than anyone knows about or Vandy is pretty bad. I think they are getting one injured started back for tonight.

All that being said, let's not crown X champ of anything yet. Shut down Semaj somehow and X has offensive issues IMO. Just not sure a blowout is in the cards against anyone other than FDU this season.

I understand that the "connecting the common opponent dots" can be dangerous, but Temple dismantled Nova last night and Nova beat Vandy by 10.

I suspect that if our guys are truly energized - it's a whiteout night - they'll come out hard against Vandy.

Otherwise, shutting down Semaj somehow may be a rare feat this year, especially given that his assist ratio probably goes through the roof if the double teams start coming. He's that good of a floor general and passer even now.

As for the game, I would be very, very happy with a URI win. No matter who PC is missing they aren't terrible and for URI to get another road BCS win would be very good. I am not expecting anything so hope to be pleasantly surprised.

That being said (and I'm gonna now jinx them), is it me or does URI not completely suck? They are woefully short on bodies and don't have a ton of talent, but they've been in almost every game except the first couple. Not unexpected with a new coach and virtually all new players. Since then they've been right there with teams that are better than them.

They are 2-6 but with a few bounces could have 4 or 5 wins. They only had 7 all last year (only 5 until Feb 25) and lost Baron and Holton. If they had those guys (I know, I know, I'm not saying they should) would they be 5-3 already?

I still think they don't get to double digit wins or anything, but if they really are a bottom 3 team in the league this league is going to be damn good this year.

I think the league is good this year. We've currently got 12 teams with rpi 105 or better, and 7 of which are top 50. That will probably go down a little (thanks to bcs conference teams being able to have so many home games and the Mountain West playing a weak schedule), but it's still pretty impressive. The only thing missing is a team or two to emerge as a top 25 caliber team, and for Fordham to pick it up (currently #303).

I think URI will have a tough time making the conference tournament (top 12). The number 12 and 11 teams in the expected rpi (from http://www.rpiforecast.com/confs/A10.html) are Umass and St. Bonaventure. Do you think URI is better than those teams or any of the teams above them? I'd say URI has a decent shot of finishing #13 (so bottom 4, but better than Fordham, GW, and Duquesne), but I'll be very surprised if they finish 12 or higher. It's still early though, so who knows what will happen by the end of the season, URI could mature and surprise by then.

Most years when we had 14 or even 12 it seemed like there were at least a couple of teams that were just awful. The usual suspect in Fordham but other teams have been down there. URI some years. Duquesne, Bonnies, GW. Even UMass has had some pretty bad seasons.

It just seems like with 16 teams we really don't have any that are just hopeless. That is pretty damn impressive. We just need to get a few more "signature" wins so when everyone beats up on each other in the league we don't get hammered for it.

Looking at URI's schedule it doesn't look too good for conference play. Under the old model, they always asked to play UMass, Bonnies, and Fordham twice. That was usually good for a few wins although far from guaranteed. Now they only have UMass twice cuz of the expanded league. Those won't be easy.

At home they have Char, GW, VCU, St B, Day, X, LaS, UMass. Ouch. Prob only favored over GW and maybe sneak out 1 or 2 more wins there. 2 or 3 wins at home isn't going to be enough to finish top 12. They have Fordham and Duquesne away.

Like I said, maybe 2 or 3 more wins OOC and then maybe 3-4 wins max in conf. I don't think they get to 10 wins unless they pull it together in a big way. But they might be one of the better teams to not make the A10 tourney. Prob could be said for the other 3 teams that don't make it. The league is just really good throughout.

Now URI will go and lose by 30 tonight and look like absolute shite. Mark it down.

I agree MSG. Fordham and URI even with records of 2-6 and 1-7 have shown flashes of pretty good quality basketball at times. Fordham is even doing it without Gaston and when/if he comes back Fordham is not an automatic win in league play. URI has been giving excellent effort and have a real team cohesion. When they were playing Auburn that URI bench was going nuts and completely into the game. Duquesne has been a surprise as well. I don't think there is a team this year that you can absolutely say is a win.
