Was down this past weekend, and Misquamicut still looks bad. Watch Hill and Weekapaug, both also in Westerly area both look fine, no real damage left at all. I would think by next summer, much of Misquamicut will be back on its feet as well. Had a wedding at the new Weekapaug Inn, which is just gorgeous, but so much less luxurious and pretentious than the new Ocean House in Watch Hill. Would be just awesome during the summer.

But if you are interested in the ultra-luxury 5 Star resort, the Ocean House in Watch Hill is ridiculously nice, and ridiculously expensive.

I knew I could count on the people who are on this board to give me the straight story about what is available. Thank you all.

My plan was to use up Hilton Honors points for the hotel. Hope there is a good one near the towns mentioned in the above posts. And I am hoping by next summer everything will be almost back to normal. After watching how long it took to get over Hurricane Ike on the gulf coast, it seems like it takes a few years to get all the way back, but that it only takes a few months to get back to at least 50 percent.

Rusty - DukesDan is right about Wellfleet. It is not crowded and has great ocean beaches, bay beaches, and freshwater ponds. THe Cape Cod Rail Trail is great for biking and running. Also, it was fun to watch the Patriots make the Houstons their bitches on Monday night.

We took a last minute getaway to Hyannis for the 4th of July last year. (literally last minute - we decided to drive up from NJ that morning, instead of watching the fireworks in NY) We caught the fireworks over Lewis Bay, and could see fireworks going off over a couple of the other shore points as well.... Yes, it was crowded - but not obnoxiously crowded. We had a great day - took a trip around the Cape the next day; we stopped to see a couple lighthouses and P-Town (which I mentioned before), the 3rd day we took the ferry to Martha's Vinyard - which was nice too. Yes, it would probably be considered crowded - but again, the crowds did nothing to ruin or spoil the day. Martha's Vinyard is good if you are looking to do some shopping, and if you don't mind doing a little walking - you can find some sparsely populated beaches. We were only noticed the crowds when trying to hail a cab at the end of the day, to get back to the ferry.

Oh - and the locals say that the 4th is absolutely the worst time to visit, because of the crowds. If you pick any other time, it would be very light.

One last thing - if you do go to Hyannis, get to the Brazilian Grill at the end of the main strip. Really good food.

I don't know that we'll go for the 4th again, but we are planning another trip to the Cape for next summer.

Oh and for some Ohio flavor you could go to Put-in-Bay, the drunkest island in lake Erie and home of one of the largest phallic symbols in the nation!






Warning this island should be avoided by anyone under 18.
