Re: The potentially premature goodbye thread
Here's a quote from Marquette's AD:
"When you think about the A-10, I don't even really view the remnants of the Big East in the same light as I do the A-10. There's no Georgetown in the A-10. Georgetown has won a national championship. There's no Marquette in the A-10. They've not won a national championship in their history. They have a couple of good schools and they have some nice quality across the board, but I certainly, and I know I'm being sort of a homer here, but I certainly think the Big East basketball schools present a profile that is superior to what the depth of the A-10 is." I am really starting to hate this guy. |

Re: The potentially premature goodbye thread
It seems like we always beat Marquette. I think that is why they have issues with us.

Re: The potentially premature goodbye thread
Even though they're not showing anything lately, St. John's has the potential to step up and become legit again. However, they and Providence seem to be following the blueprint of aggressively courting great basketball players who have little to no chance of qualifying.

Re: The potentially premature goodbye thread
Dayton has played Marquette 35 times. Although Dayton posts a 14-21 record with them, Dayton has won 5 of the last 6 games since 1998. The last time Dayton played Marquette was in 2008 at the Sears Center. Dayton won 89-75. I don't see any great superiority from Marquette.

Although perhaps not common, it happens regularly. Pitt did the same thing to Bona a number of years back. Like Dayton, Bona made the mistake of winning on the road the previous year. |

Re: The potentially premature goodbye thread
In typical fashion, the Dayton fans are starting to analyze why they are superior to everyone despite their record on the court. I expect charts and graphs to come out very soon that demonstrate unequivocally why they are the epicenter of any new basketball league.

Jeez, the guy even called himself a "homer" during the course of his remarks. Maybe the problem was that he failed to fall on his sword!

To me that would mean every member would have at least 2 trips to the NCAA Tourney and 5 winning seasons during each 10-year cycle. It would also be great for every program to seriously challenge for a league title (either regular season or Tourney) at least once during that same period of time. |

Re: The potentially premature goodbye thread
The potential premature good bye Christmas present:
Who knows what will happen (other than the college presidents, and I'm not even sure about them). If a new league was formed and went to 12 teams taking St Louis, Richmond, Butler and XU from the A10 plus Creighton...the Muskies would leave behind a great gift; NCAA credits. Assuming Charlotte and Temple can't share (they're leaving) and neither can VCU (it's just coming in), and leaving teams have to leave their credit $ behind, there would be nine teams to share XU's NCAA credits. In the last 6 years that is 15 credits, at around $250k per credit. So, a total present of $3,750,000 that will come in over 6 years to be split by the nine remaining schools = @$420k/school. Nice.
