I am hearing that Duquesne is being considered, but that if they are not invited it might be SBU. There may be some requirements to play some games in Buffalo, but it is a real possibility. Amazing what winning the A-10 tourney in the right year can do for you.

Pittsburgh is a long-established Big East city.

Why would any of the BE7 schools want to trade the long-established Pittsburgh market for the Olean market, where the Big East doesn't even have a foothold ?

Muddy, I hate to break it to you but the only school that is a "lock" for the new conference is Xavier. You may be the only person on this board that believes Dayton and St Louis are absolute "locks."

I would still love to hear the argument as to how this new conference would benefit UD's from a purely basketball perspective (financially, exposure, marketing.. absolutely). If UD can't get NCAA bids or compete for conference championships from the pre-Butler and VCU A-10 days, what in the world makes you think they will in a BE7+Xavier and a few others conference. If UD's priority is basketball program success, they ought to stay in the A-10 and dominate the conference, strengthen OOC and continue grabbing a couple good wins and start to consistently earn NCAA bids. If UD's priority is the financial and exposure aspect of that to support the university or other athletic programs, than they should absolutely accept an offer to the new conference if one is available.

Muddy, I'm not saying that Bona is being considered. In fact, every scenario discussed in these threads is a rumor. Having said that, it is not the Olean market, it is the Buffalo market that Bona would bring. That is the Bonnies' media market. Add to the potential for Rochester, and it is even larger. Remember, the Big East used to carry Upstate NY with Syracuse, and no longer has that.

Nobody is saying Bona will get an invite to this league. I'd highly doubt it and I'm actually not sure I'd want that. However, to think Olean, NY is Bona's only market is asinine. They get a lot of press in Buffalo and play in both Buffalo and Rochester every year. In both cities, there is a large base of alums. Ignoring the wide open Buffalo market has been a mistake from the Bona standpoint. We should have been playing big league games up there for a while now. Now it's probably too late. Still, the A10 can be a strong conference going forward--with or without a great program like X.

It is bizarre, isn't it? He seems oddly threatened for some reason. Dayton has a nice program that I'd like to support, but it's difficult because he just can't help attacking other programs.

When they fired Everhart some letter from the President to the Board of Trustees got leaked. The letter was very detailed about why he thought it was time to remove Everhart. That might not be exactly right, but it's something along those lines.
