Muddy, you previously declared as fact that Dayton, SLU and Xavier were locks for the new conference. I am confused now. An article says invitations will be fortcoming to Xavier and... Butler? And possibly Dayton, St Louis and Creighton.

Could you help clear up the confusion for me and explain what you meant by your previous statement declared as fact regarding Dayton, SLU and Xavier being "locks."

I have to laugh at ExplorerSteve. This is the second post he's made in which he states the Atlantic 10's 14 schools must "remain united" and "stand together" because "we" are "bargaining from a strength standpoint."

When you say "we" and "us" in a position of strength... I assume you mean Xavier and to a much lesser exten SLU, Dayton, Butler etc.

Xavier will not remain united and bargain as one with the likes of Rhode Island, Fordham, LaSalle, St Bona, Duquense etc. Sorry Steve. LaSalle is screwed.

No. I figured the existing 80 page thread of worthless speculation was more than enough.

Here's my prediction: the members of the BE7 will be playing basketball in some conference with or without existing A-10 members of indeterminate amount in the year 2015.

URI really hasn't been that bad historically. we had a bad year last year. the truth is no conference is going to want both URI and PC, it doesn't do anything for them. and since PC has bigger friends, they are going to win, even if they are smallest school discussed with less then 4K students in their student body.

You haven't made an NCAA since 1999. Not sure the discussion of "on-the-court success" the BE7+Xavier are having to determine who to invite include any accomplishments in the previous century.

The Presidents of the BE7 Universities are not going to base their decisions on the results of one night of games, but this will certainly not escape their attention:


Catholic Seven Officially Part Ways with the Big East, Leaving Uncertainty in their Wake (AP/Yahoo! - December 15, 2012)

DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall and Villanova now must decide what other schools they might invite to join them.

Butler, Dayton, Saint Louis and Xavier are all likely candidates depending on how big the league wants to be. A 10 or 12-team configuration would make the most sense simply for scheduling purposes.

Presidents of the seven schools issued a joint statement regarding their unanimous decision.

Go over to the Georgetown board, this morning. Their preference is 9 (XU & BU), I can't imagine it'll be a great departure from that. (ie 10 most likely, 12 absolute max)

I would be very surprised if the President of Georgetown University is posting on the Georgetown board this morning.

And even if he is, the Presidents of Marquette University and DePaul University can combine to out-vote him.

Unless and until Georgetown gets a firm invitation from the ACC to join their conference for basketball, Georgetown has no leverage over the other six BE7 schools - most of whom apparently want a 12-member, 2-division all-Catholic conference. We'll see.

GU is driving the bus for the exact same reason Xavier and Butler are the only two assured of going. The league formulation is about basketball cache (ie rights/licensing/etc revenue) via its revenue sport.

Though you could go elsewhere, the sentiment is pretty universal. Georgetown is just more important.

Didn't you read Muddy's posts?? He proclaimed to everyone on here that Xavier, Dayton and SLU are assured "locks" in this new conference.

If everyone would just listen to Muddy and attempt to follow his logic, the world would be a much better place...
