I agree with your basic point though. If it was about religion, where is the invite for St Joes? For Duquesne?

And maybe the powers that be at Marquette read this board. I find it tough to like Dayton sometimes.

There are already a lot more people in St. Louis that watch ESPN. The good Dayton percentage probably comes from people watching OSU. They are on the main ESPN 6 more times this year.

Well, this is great for Butler. That means he is "philosophically" aligned with the BE7 Catholic schools. Otherwise you would be screwed.

I might have missed it at the beginning of the thread, but what is Muddy giving as the prize to the winner. You can't start a contest without a prize.

One of these:

They're selling for 25 cents each at flea markets in Dayton.

You get a link to your school's web site in his signature line.
He apparently dropped Xavier's sometime recently to make room for the winner.

I think Duquesne is a possibility but my guess is that Nova vetoes any other Philadelphia school. It's no secret that they did that for years in the BE.

Re: CONTEST: Predict the New 'BE12' Conference Teams

It is starting to sound more and more like a 12 team league. It would surprise me if it is anybody but Xavier, Butler, Dayton, St. Louis, and Creighton.

That makes sense, but it also would not surprise me if one of those was left out in favor of an eastern team like Richmond or VCU.

The Northern-12 are leaving the Big East and hoping they take Dayton so we are freed from Muddy's posts.

I think we'll get a few good months of jubilant posts from Muddy if UD gets an invite. Perhaps even with some graphs and charts detailing how UD would be one of the top teams in the new league.

Then when reality strikes, and UD has even more trouble competing in the new league than they did in even the pre Butler and VCU A-10, I suspect we won't hear much from him between December and April.

Marquette might prefer to stick with their traditional Big East brethren over their former MCC/GreatMidwest cousins.

One league will comprise the seven Catholic schools ó DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, St. Johnís, Seton Hall and Villanova ó plus five schools from the following group: Butler, Creighton, Dayton, Duquesne, George Mason, St. Louis and Xavier.

A Post source said though St. Maryís and Gonzaga are attractive candidates, the travel costs to fly non-revenue teams cross-country will almost surely make adding them prohibitive. The source said Butler, Dayton, George Mason, St. Louis and Xavier are the top five options as the league seeks to transform into an elite, 12-team, hoops conference.
The New York Post's Lenn Robbins doesn't have a stellar record with stuff like this, but hey, it's news.

NY Post: Dayton Will Be One of 12 (Doug Harris, DDN - December 26, 2012)

The New Big East wonít take shape until the presidents and athletic directors of the "Catholic 7" meet in January to map out its future, but New York Post writer Lenn Robbins is reporting Dayton is one of five schools that will be chosen to form a 12-team league. Nothing is certain, of course.

There has been speculation Xavier would try to block Dayton from being part of the new league.

Hard to imagine a school with a long and collaborative history with UD would resort to that. But I guess in this age of everyone-for-himself conference hopping, anything is possible.

Re: CONTEST: Predict the New 'BE12' Conference Teams

Methinks Lenn Robbins needs to fire his "sources".

There's as much chance of Duquense and George Mason in this new league as there is the Chicago Bulls. And, it's become pretty clear from EVERYONE else that Creighton is going to be included (10 or 12)

Not knowing anything about that paper, is the New York Post generally this bad? This guy gets contradicted everytime he chimes in.
