Re: X, UD, StL, Butler - Explain the "allure" of the BE7
Pete Thamel, who came to SI from the Ney York Times, isn't just guessing or "making up" some number.
If he says 3mm, you can take to the bank that's what's on the back of envelopes (obstensibly from Fox and NBC) It's going to be in that neighborhood. This isn't Joe Shmoe blogger guy. Honestly, it sounds to me like both NBC Sports and Fox Sports see this Big East as a base content vehicle, similar (ironically) how ESPN used the original Big East in the early 80s |

Re: X, UD, StL, Butler - Explain the "allure" of the BE7
I'm quite aware of reality. A fan of a soon-to-be-diminished program is talking out of his ass, absurdly in the face of sourced information from as good a media source as you are going to see

What do I know about reality. I just live miles from the birthplace and headquarters of the Big East and have been following the league for some 30 years. The fact that I have had a relative play men's hoops in the Big East, another relative (unrelated to the player) work as a dean in the administration of a Big East member, and had former Big East commissioners at family events mean nothing. You out in Indiana must have a much better understanding of things. Last edited by RF1; 12-23-2012 at 09:42 AM. |

Re: X, UD, StL, Butler - Explain the "allure" of the BE7
I nominate "Title_BU" for most arrogant A-10 forum poster this year. I mean, has he had anything to say other than "Butler rules, the A-10 sucks, thank God we're leaving after just 2 years in your pathetic little conference?". Here's hoping Butler finds their pathetic little A-10 schedule just a shade more difficult than your big bad Horizon League lineup. I wondered when you'd finally join a D1 conference.

Re: X, UD, StL, Butler - Explain the "allure" of the BE7
I think that this new league will bring in some pretty decent TV money. Networks are looking for CONTENT..........and I think that a college hoops centric conference based in the larger cities of the Northeast and Midwest would be a pretty easy sell (remember the original Big East???). College football is a saturated market.........too many games that no one cares about. I think that this new league will provide fresh new appeal to both network execs AND college sports fans. College football has shot itself in the foot........too much concentrated power for too few programs. The entire regular season is becoming a BIG YAWNER.

BrownIndian85,
I'm sorry being less than is so difficult for you to deal with. Maybe some local access channel may choose to pick you up one of these years. |

Re: X, UD, StL, Butler - Explain the "allure" of the BE7
I just couldn't read this any more without responding. The schools that leave the A10 are doing so because they think it will improve their program. Only time will tell if they are right or made a colossal effup, but it's petty for others to wish they ill will for doing what I assume their school presidents would also do if they had the same opportunity.

Reading Title BU's posts makes me want to vomit. I actually like Butler, but if their fan base is as arrogant as this guy, I hope their program chokes hard in conference play.

Re: X, UD, StL, Butler - Explain the "allure" of the BE7
It's presumed that the programs that may leave for the BE7 will leave due to perceived opportunity, including a materially better television (dollars plus marketing exposure) package.
It's hoped that all that works out as presently anticipated. It's also hoped that the A10 moves forward successfully. As a long-time Xavier fan who believes the relationship has been mutually beneficial, I'll always wish the A10 luck in the future. I also seen no reason why the A10 cannot continue to be successful. Conference affiliation is an important program attribute, but it will still be up to individual programs to fight through to become sustainable players on the national stage. At least this is where I stand on all this. I want X to be successful via which ever path it takes. If that means parting ways with the A10, then good luck to the A10. |

LOL you guys are just taking the bait and getting dragged along the boat.
Who cares what 1 anonymous guy thinks? If you guys are this bothered by someone who is simply trolling you to get a reaction, you're failing at the internet.

Re: X, UD, StL, Butler - Explain the "allure" of the BE7
I had to take a moment to reply to all of the negative comments regarding LaSalle, yes I did go there. I did a bit of research on Kenpom.
Current rank 64, 5th in A-10, 2012 rank 64, 5th in A-10, 2011 rank 172 11th in A-10 (no excuses), 2010 162 13th in A-10 (to those of you who pay attention this was the year they had four starters injured and at times three at a time), 2009 109, 7th in A-10, 2008 137, 8th in A-10, 2007 208, 14th in A-10 (no excuses), 2006 99,3rd in A-10. During that time St.Johns has ranged from 42 to 152, Providence from 67 to 124, and mighty DePaul from 46 in 2007 and the balance of the years from 82 to 202. Historically how far back do you want to go. Except for the very top most teams in most conferences have an ebb and flow going from periods of strentgh, LaSalle in the years 86-90 when they had Lionel Simmons, to the years after that when the progrom took a tumble. The trend is up and this will be another twenty game season and will outrank most of the Big East seven. |
