Re: Your Team's Awards so far....

For the Hawks...

Langston Galloway for All-Conference

CJ Aiken for All-Defensive Team and nominee for Defensive Player of the Year

Chris Wilson should be a nominee for Most Improved Player

Isaiah Miles possibly for All-Freshman Team

Re: Your Team's Awards so far....

What BM said, but beyond that...

Patricio Garino has a chance to make the all-defensive team, or at least he should (hard for a freshman to make it without gaudy block/steal numbers). Despite being just a freshman, Garino is proving himself already as a lock-down wing defender. He had primary defensive responsibility for the last year's leading scorer from the Horizon and MAAC and held them to a cobined 3-23 shooting, and he has shut down major conference stars (Rodney Magruder and Myles Mack shot 11-29 combined against GW but most of those baskets were either in transition or when someone else was guarding them).

I know 2 steals per game probably isn't enough to get a freshman from a struggling club, but he and Armwood are the reason GW is 4th in the league in defensive efficiency. Next time you watch GW, watch this kid play defense, especially off the ball.

Oh, and Bryan Bynes should win 2 awards: Worst shooter in A-10 history and Least Improved Player.

Jones was a great get for Stevens out of O'Fallon. Love the way he plays.

Totally agree on Munford, but in a league with some great PGs, it'll be hard for Powell to push through. (Of course, if he has more games like the one against SMU, then he'd be a shoo-in.)

Also, do you think Hare has a shot at all Freshmen if he keeps improving?

No need. They bestow it on themselves every October.

Maybe not All-Freshman because I don't really seem him putting up big numbers except blocks, might have a better chance at all defensive team

Re: Your Team's Awards so far....

No idea what to say for SLU right now. Jett has probably played well enough for a spot on one of the all league teams. Evans has been stuffing the stat sheets some games but has really disappeared in others. Same with Ellis.

Mitchell will be back right after Christmas. We'll see how he plays. Should get 3 games under his belt before conference season.

Re: Your Team's Awards so far....

For Charlotte:

MVP is probably Henry (7.5 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 3.6 apg, 2.6 spg), though you could make the case for Braswell given his numbers (13.4 ppg, 6.9 rbg). Unless Braswell heats up in conference though, then I think he may make 3rd team at best. Unless the A10 folks decide to start recognizing guys that don't really show up in the scoring column, I doubt Henry makes any of the teams. He's been best when he steps it up in games late when the Niners need a push. His achilles heel has been just awful 3 pt shooting.

For newcomers, both Clark and Clayton have played well, but Clayton stands out as the better player overall so far (7.9 ppg, 6.2 rpg). Clayton might make the all-rookie team, but given how the Niners rotate guys he will probably not put up the kind of numbers that guys on less-balanced teams will have.

I doubt the Niners get many guys on the all-conference teams. The balance in scoring and playing time seems to keep anyone from getting consistently good numbers. And there's a lot of good players in this league this year.

Since this is an award thread, I nominate brianstl1 for posting something that will likely result in the destruction of this thread with back and forth comments. I name this the "Muddy" award since he seems to cause the most conflict on the board. I thnk anyone who tries to derail a thread with this type of post should be awarded a "Muddy" and then maybe we can eliminate some of these inane one liners and get back to basketball discussion. Career "Muddy" goes to MudFlap who actually named himself after Muudy and then persisted to post not one single thing that leads to good basketball discussion.

Re: Your Team's Awards so far....

yes, Flapping mud - thank you. He calls our players stupid, Splinters and Sewage. Actually ran a post where he alluded to one of our players being dead, constantly assaults the X administration and players and we are criticized for responding. Disappears for months when things don't go his way and there is absolutely no controversy, then comes back with more insults. It a "discussion" board. If he says something outrageous, you are apparently not allowed to respond. Thanks for the award.

So suggesting that thinking five players on a middle of the pack team in a 15 team conference are deserving of conference post season honors is just a little absurd............... is destroying a thread?
