On the overall situation, I think our president and VP of student affairs who has basically run the AD for a good number of years both would be very happy going to the PL in all sports. I think our new AD likely would too. That said, many on our Board of Trustees would not and we have enough big donors (by Fordham standards) that don't want to move our sports to the PL. Unfortunately they are not big enough donors to get us the critical piece we need, a new arena and all that comes with that.

I don't think our president wants part of his legacy to be that he moved us out of the A10 b/c we could not get the job done under his watch. I think overall he does not care enough about sports to make a change one way or the other, so while he won't move us out, he also won't make a push for new facilities.
I meant on all this. Thanks for the response.

This has nothing to do with Fordham as an institution, especially since I have a great deal of respect for Fordham, but your President is a class-one asshole. With all these issue with respect to conference affiliation for Fordham being so clear, he needs to call the ball one way or the other: invest to appease many on the BoT and the caring fanbase, or do what is right for his existing conference mates and move out to the PL.

Keeping it in limbo like this is just wrong. Zero leadership. Zero acknowledgement of owning multiple responsibilities.

'dash, a lot of you guys make it sound as if the PL taking Fordham back is a slam dunk. It is not. Don't get me wrong, I suspect the PL might accept an application from Fordham, but primarily to stabilize the conference in football. As far as basketball in concerned, Fordham would rank behind four current members (out of eight) and six current and future members (out of ten). The PL is not the dumping ground some think.

All that being said, I would welcome Fordham back as a full member of the PL, but I'm pretty sure that neither party views it as an unequivocal plus.

Re: Fordham to the Patriot League??????

I've said for the last few years, this is a move Fordham needs to make. I think ultimately they well. The current administration, especially Father McShane, is not equiped to handle the landscape of major to high mid-major college athletics in 2013. As it is, Fordham's ideals, academics, facilities, support, etc fall in line with the PL.

I'm not convinced the Rams will be successful in the PL but at least they'll have a fighting shot. Bucknell, Navy, Lehigh, Army, Boston U, all have nicer facilities. Bucknell and Lehigh also have a much more recent track record of winning. They've also shown the ability to recruit elite mid-major, even BCS, caliber talent.

Fordham football is absolutely on the right track. The addition of scholarships and a competent coach will have them in the race for at least the next 2-3 years. Jack Coffey Field, while not Montana's Wash/Griz, is a nice place to watch a game. It could be better for sure but all and all it works. Ultimatey though, Fordham will need to pick up their game by giving JCF a little spruce up. Otherwise, Lehigh and Colgate will cruise right past them.

Fair enough. I could have said McGuirk and the point would have been the same. Just not as poignant...

res, I don't mean to imply that it's a "dumping" play. All else being equal and assuming things can be worked out, I would like for Fordham to find an appropriate home and I would wish them luck. I'll never understand that a proud Jesuit school in the media capital of the world couldn't figure out how important this piece of the puzzle is to ongoing development. That kinda blows my mind.

Nonetheless, here we are. Let them first and foremost do the right thing: acknowledge and act upon the obligation they have to their conference mates, given their circumstances. Then let them land on their feet well, once some course of action is set.

But don't let this insulting middle of the road status quo non-sense continue.

Yes.

Adrian "Whole Lotta Game" Walton of the NY Post is citing wordsmith Liberto Tetimadingar of The New Yorker.

Jeff McMillan of the NY Daily News refutes this, though. We'll see, I suppose...

the joke: back in 06 umass had to travel out to montana for a national semi. a BUNCH of montana fans swarmed our board letting us know that the game was already over because none of our players could handle their crowd noise. well we rolled in the game and ever since, anytime someone mentioned wash-griz, we'd respond with something letting you know we were having trouble hearing.

Well said. Fordham really needs to $hit or get off the pot. And I think that $ fits in well there.

What are some examples of athletic programs that had more success and generated more fan interest after downgrading?

Moving to a league with better rivals and a better chance at success is "downgrading"??? We're too obsessed with "bigger is better" in this country. Common sense goes out the window with that line of thought. College athletics has lost sight of one of the most important aspect of collegiate athletics.........RIVALRIES. I truly believe that is one of the reasons why collegiate athletics sucks so much in the Northeast. Name another area of the country where next to none of the biggest schools and best athletic programs hardly play each other in football and hoops, never mind belong to the same conference.
