Re: A10 power rankings - 12/28/12
UMass did it in three consecutive seasons: UNC 93-94, Arkansas 94-95, and UK 95-95. UMass' 95-96 OOC record is unlikely to ever be matched by an A10 team (UK #1, UMD #19, Florida, WFU #10, BC, UNCW, Georgia Tech #21, NCSU, USC, Syracuse #13, Memphis #3, Louisville #21 - all games were wins and all rankings are the AP poll prior to the game. Some teams, like BC, were ranked at some point in the season but not when UMass played them).

Unfortunately for the Minutemen, the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee hasn't returned their phone calls since 1998. Massachusetts Minutemen - NCAA Basketball Tournament History (ESPN)

What have you done for the A-10.... 4 teams have never been ranked while playing in this league.... I am aware that the context of that thread also looked at post season appearences... but the distinction of never being ranked while representing this conference means something too..... Just sayin'

Re: A10 power rankings - 12/28/12
The AP does not release an end of year poll like the coaches poll does, so the last AP poll is after the conference tourneys.

That welding scandal really hurt you guys - one can only wonder what could have been if that didn't happen. That said, you at least have some excuse...

I'd actually still move the Niners down a notch or two just due to the easy schedule and lack of strong wins. The road win over Davidson is not nearly as good as wins over Notre Dame (SJU) and Butler (Xavier), even if they were really early in the season, even if the Niners have been more consistent against bad teams. I'm not even all that confident they're better than Richmond at this point, but neither team has really won a significant game yet so it's hard to tell. |

In Saint Louis' defense:
Our best player makes his debut tonight. May make them a little better. Most Bills fans aren't too far either way so far (the biggest debate is if there's 2 bad losses or 1). So right now, SLU being lower would be fair.

Re: A10 power rankings - 12/28/12
there's something to be said for not losing any bad ones and umass has avoided them, despite all the close games. i think umass will be scary good by the end of the season once again. remember it wasn't until the start of a10 play last year and really mid january before umass really started clicking last year. to me the turning point last year was falling behind 20-3 last year against st joes and then coming back and winning by 15 or so. up until that point we struggled, getting blown out by fsu and college of charleston as well as a close loss to a weak miami team followed by wins over mostly cupcakes. heck we had a nailbiter at home with fordham in the first weak of january last year. at the end of the year though nobody wanted to match up with us in the a10 tourney.
4 of our next 5 are on the road, where we struggled last year. 4-1 would be outstanding, 5-0 would mean tourney contention.
