Wow New Mexico looks like garbage but Billikens taking advantage of it up 20 at the half.

Saint Louis with a big win. First half defense was a thing of beauty.

But can they do it away from the "friendly confines". Competition of late, save NM, not exactly a murderers row.

Less than 7000 in the beautiful Chaifetz Center tonight for a #20 guest? Very surprising given the good year SLU is having and the great year they enjoyed last season.

Explanation for low attendance?

Congratulations to the Billikens on an old-fashioned beat-down of a ranked team.

I still don't like Jim Crews (and never will) but the Billikens deserve credit and respect for getting the job done in a very important game for both teams.

Bonnies couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Actually took 70 shots compared to 59 by Iona. But, Iona was on fire, especially from deep. Good team, especially now that they have Laury eligible. No excuses though. Bona has to win that game.

Or being too scared to play in Olean.

Andrew Nicholson was scary.

Olean isn't.

Olean just sucks.

And last night, the Bonnies did too.

Huge win for SLU. This league is easy to rank right now.

1. VCU
2. Butler
3. Everyone else

These are absolutely the best excuses ever. I have to laugh everytime they're brought up, especially the cheesesteak excuse. The palpable pressure that UD feels at their arena is another good one.

Re: 12/31 A-10 Games

So Butler, VCU, Temple are safely in (barring collapses in conference play)

St Louis, now in with the ever crucial Top 50 win, providing they do what we expect they do in A-10 play

I can't give any exact explanations, but here are a few thoughts:

It was New Year's Eve in the evening. New Mexico, while good, isn't a big enough name to draw casual fans on a night when people might have plans to do something else. I think this has some validity because SLU had over 8,000 for Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (not the Southern Illinois that has been in the NCAA tournament in the last 10 years), and that was in large part because SLU was running some kind of general admission ticket deal, and they oversold those tickets.

Another issue could be the weather. St. Louis had a light dusting of snow yesterday. Nothing to cause any actual problems, aside from me slipping on some ice in the driveway this morning, but some people in St. Louis tend to think the world is ending when it snows, so they go to the grocery store in preparation, buy the stuff they need in case they get snowed in, then go home, shut it down, and wait out the snow. I know it's pathetic, but it does happen, and I wouldn't be stunned if some people just decided not to mess with it. Once again, it was a big game, but it's not like SLU was playing Kansas, Duke, North Carolina, or Kentucky.

One thing I will say is that it was a loud crowd of under 7,000. Much louder and more enthusiastic than the SIUE game Friday with 1,500 more fans.

I had heard that the crowd looked bad on TV, which is somewhat typical because the seats at Chaifetz seen when the court is shown are said to be owned by corporations who don't always use them, or are subject to a higher fee than the rest, and possibly might not all be owned.
